A harder day today.
We found 3 Humpback whales but non were too interested in letting us get much of a look.
We cruised out towards Bald Head as we do and before we had reached Seal Rock I spotted blows out towards Michaelmas Island. We cruised in that direction and when we were closer to the area I slowed down scanning off the starboard side of the vessel.
Of course we had traveled too far, this became obvious when I saw a breach back in the direction we had come from. As we headed to this whale which did a second breach but with non of the power of the first, we came across another single Humpback. We followed this one for some time thinking it may get curious, but no such luck. We head south to small blows about 800 metres away and this whale showed even less interest in letting us take its picture.
After spotting more blows closer to Limestone Head but not finding these whale either we cruised towards Albany's Historic Whaling Station finding the very quiet whale in these pictures. Blowing these pictures up I can not see any open wounds although the ridge from fin to tail looks less than healthy, may be this young whale is just carrying scars from previous injuries.
All of today's whales were what I would describe as adolescents, 10 meters in length at best.

Today we had an English couple and their adult daughter join our cruise.
Mum asked if I could give her a life jacket to wear while on the cruise as she was pretty worried about being on the ocean.
I explained I would never leave the jetty to take passengers out to sea if they needed a life jacket. However if you thought after some time she would feel safer we would find a PFD for her.

We cruised out of Princess Royal Harbour and across King George Sound towards Seal Rock. We spot blows out towards Breaksea Island so headed that way. We found a pod of about 15 Common Dolphins messing with a lone Humpback about 10 metres in length. The Humpback cruised around our vessel at times rolling around showing us its belly. After about 15 minutes the whale lost interest in us and headed SE. We followed slowly until we spotted more blows, so we cruised out to investigate.
We found 2 Humpbacks heading towards Bald Head. We cruise with these whales although there are whales seen further out to sea. We spot what could be a pod of 4 or 5 whales back towards Breaksea Island so worth the time to investigate. We find 3 whales cruising towards Bald Head with a couple more several hundred metres away. We follow the 3 Humpbacks back towards Bald Head. When we leave these whales we head for the marina.
King George Sound is calm with just a little of the swell from out side the sound coming in.

We get back to the marina and before our English family leave the vessel they come and thank me for the best thing they have done in the month they have so far spent in Australia. I am so pleased that even though mum was very, very concerned about cruising, at the start, that by trips end she was so much more relaxed and in the future would be more likely to go for a cruise. If the weather conditions were not as good as they had been I would have advised this lady against cruising. I have never put money before passenger comfort and enjoyment. Today just shows if you operate like this you can bring great experiences to people which in turn brings joy to me knowing that I have changed their lives fears for the better in just a small part.

Sunday 11th Feb boarded Naturaliste Charters Whale Watching vessel "Alison Marie" for a day out watching the Killer Whales of Bremer Bay. A great vessel and a credit to Paul Cross and his family. If you have not had the pleasure check the weather and book a spot. As some one who spends a bit of time around boats, in my opinion "Alison Marie" is by far the best vessel operating out of Bremer Bay. I say this having been on both vessels in the past. Sorry for the limited selection of pics, taking good pictures of Orcas is pretty bloody hard even on a calm day with good gear.
