❤️💙WILDLIFE WEDNESDAY 💚💛

🦜Eastern Rosella 🦜
Eastern Rosella (Platycercus eximius) is a beautiful and colourful parrot 🦜species found in eastern and south-eastern Australia. It belongs to the genus Platycercus, which is a group of broad-tailed parrots also known as the rosellas.

The Eastern Rosellas are so colourful because of the presence of pigments in their feathers 🪶such as carotenoids, which give them their red, yellow, and orange hues. These pigments are obtained from the birds' diets, which include fruits, flowers, and other plant materials. The blue colour on their wings 🪽 comes from the structure of the feathers themselves, which scatter light in a way that creates the blue hue. The bright colours of the Eastern Rosella may also serve as a way for the birds to attract mates, establish territories, and communicate with other members of their species.

Their survival depends on us protecting their habitats and reducing threats like habitat loss and predation. Let's do our part to ensure these fascinating birds continue to thrive in the wild!

💙WILDLIFE WEDNESDAY💙

🐬We LOVE our local bottlenose dolphins🐬they are such beautiful and fascinating creatures, and there are many interesting facts about them that people might not know.

Here are a few:

1. They are one of the most intelligent animals on the planet. Bottlenose dolphins have a brain 🧠 that is larger and more complex than that of most other animals, including humans.

2. They use echolocation to navigate and hunt. Dolphins emit clicking sounds that bounce off objects and return to them as echoes, allowing them to create a mental map 🗺️of their surroundings and locate prey.

3. They have excellent eyesight 👀 Dolphins have large eyes that are adapted to see in low light conditions, and they can also see in colour.

4. They are social animals. Dolphins live in groups called pods, and they are highly social animals that communicate with each other through a variety of vocalizations and body language.

5. They can hold their breath for up to 20 minutes. Dolphins are able to dive 🤿 to depths of up to 1,000 feet and can hold their breath for extended periods of time.

6. They have been observed using tools. In Shark Bay, Australia, dolphins have been observed using sponges 🧽to protect their beaks while foraging on the ocean floor.

WILDLIFE WEDNESDAY

💛Yellow-Tailed Black-Cockatoo 🐦‍⬛ - (Zanda funereal (relating to its dark plumage🪶, as if dressed for a funeral)

The Yellow-tailed Black-Cockatoo is one of six species of Black-Cockatoo in Australia and is mainly found in the south to southeast of Australia.

Birds measure from 55–65 cm in length and live up to 50 – 80 years (longer than some humans).

The adult male ♂️ has a black beak and pinkish-red eye-rings, and the female ♀️ has a bone-coloured beak and grey eye-rings.

In flight, Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos flap deeply, slowly, and with a peculiar heavy, fluid motion. The usual call is a high-pitched wailing contact call, kee-ow … kee-ow … kee-ow, and may be heard from afar. To listen 🎶https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=taN-TOkHkRQ

The birds prefer native temperate forests while being partial to pine🌲 plantations and occasionally in urban areas, as long as there is a plentiful food supply.

☑️ 3 TIPS FOR A PERFECT WINE TOUR 🥂🍷

1. Choose a region depending on the style of wine you would like to taste. For example, McLaren Vale is well known for its Shiraz and Medertirain-style wines.

2. Every wine region has tonnes of cellar doors to visit. So you must decide if you would like to visit smaller bespoke ones or more prominent wineries. We recommend at most 3-4 wineries in a day.

3. Last-minute booking can lead to disappointment! Wineries have limited availability, so it is usually better to book in advance.

If you would like for US to book the Perfect Wine Tour for YOU, all you have to do is contact us at Ph: 0498 326 739 or email: [email protected]

💚WILDLIFE WEDNESDAY💚

🦘Western Grey Kangaroo - Macropus (big foot🦶) fuliginosus

Western grey kangaroos live in several different types of habitats. They can be found in woodlands, open forests, coastal heathland, and open grassland areas. They can also be found around suburban areas and love golf courses 🏌️‍♀️

Their diet includes grasses, leaves, tree bark, and shrubby plants🌱 This kangaroo requires very little water and can survive on plants high in fibre. Western grey kangaroos spend between 6 and 10 hours grazing per day, mostly at dawn and dusk.

Female kangaroos are known as does or fliers, the males as boomers or stinkers due to their strong, curry-like smell, and the young as joeys. Kangaroos live in groups called mobs 🦘🦘🦘

These kangaroos are the most vocal of the three large kangaroo species. The mothers communicate to the joeys with a series of clicks. When defensive, they will growl like a dog.

The western greys have very close social bonds, keeping family connections for years. A daughter often stays close to her mother even after she has a joey of her own.

Young kangaroos sometimes box🥊playfully to pass the time. Adult males’ box to determine dominance, with the strongest 💪 male becoming the head of the mob.

WILDLIFE WEDNESDAY

🦔Echidna (Tachyglossus) means fast tongue 😋

Echidnas are the oldest surviving Australian mammal (around 15 million years). Short-beaked echidnas are found in Australia and their close relatives, the long-beaked echidnas which are found in New Guinea. Along with the platypus, the echidna is the only other egg-laying mammal and once eggs are hatched their babies are called ‘puggles.’

But did you know, Echidnas have some weird characteristics and adaptations?
Believe it or not, the spines you see on an echidna are actually long, tough, hollow hair follicles.

Their tongues are super-fast and long (about 15cm) and they use these amazingly long tongues to feed on ants, worms and insect larvae. Echidnas produce lots of saliva to ensure the insects they eat cannot escape their mouth before they swallow them.

As the Echidna lacks the ability to sweat and to avoid high temperatures they will burrow in hollow logs, rock crevices and have adapted so they can SWIM🏊 to cool themselves down.

WILDLIFE WEDNESDAY

Superb Blue Fairywren (Malurus cyaneus)

💙 The little Superb Blue Fairywren is a common and familiar bird in South Australia. However, they are so tiny you may not notice them.

The mature males are the most noticeable with their bright blue plumage with a blue cap, ear tufts, and cheeks; a black eye-stripe and dark blue-black throat. The female and young males are mostly brown, with white throat, duller blue tail, and a reddish bill.

Wrens live in almost any area with dense undergrowth for shelter, including grasslands, shrubs, woodland, and even domestic gardens.

These little wrens feed mainly on` insects, including grasshoppers, ants, larvae, small seeds, and fruits. They capture their food by hopping over ground and in the shrubs and then pouncing on their prey.

They are wonderful birds to sit and watch and often visit picnic areas and walking paths. However, if you can’t spot them, you can listen to them calling to one another ▶️ https://youtu.be/C5zVv-SbUjI

📷 If you’re lucky enough to capture these birds, please share your photos in the comment below. We would love to see them!
