Alexandra Musuem comes to life this weekend.
It’s our annual Heritage Machinery Festival and there is tonnes to see and do.
Everything from driving a train to patting a donkey.
We will have train rides, stationary engines, blacksmithing, vintage cars, food trucks much more, 9am to 3.30pm this weekend at 7 Station st Alexandra.

Alexandra Heritage Festival is offering the opportunity of a ‘Driver experience’.
The opportunity to drive our 1936 Kelly & Lewis locomotive at the Heritage Machinery Festival October 5 & 6. Get in early, we only have limited spots and conditions apply.

Alexandra Museum had a successful day, completing much-needed track maintenance and replacing almost 10% of our sleepers. We appreciate the assistance from Hitch Group and an awesome group of volunteers that come up from Melbourne to lend a hand.

We are now looking forward to a busy 2024.

The team is working hard setting up for this weekend. It is shaping up to be a fantastic event. With exhibitors coming from all over the state, we couldn’t be more happy with the way it has all come together.

IT’S ON THIS WEEKEND!!
Saturday and Sunday the Alexandra Museum will be alive, steam train rides, food trucks, vintage engines, classic cars, kids activities, blacksmithing and much more. It’s for kids young and old.

Enjoy our festival and visit our beautiful town of Alexandra and it’s surrounds, there’s plenty to see and do to warrant a day trip.

We will have all sizes and types of running displays, some big some small.
Steam, petrol, kerosene and diesel all lovingly restored to running condition by exhibitors from across Victoria.

Just 3 weeks now until the Alexandra Heritage Machinery Festival kicks off across two full days, 7 & 8 October.

Here’s a little insight into our pride and joy, built in 1909 our John Fowler locomotive Number 5 was built in Leeds, UK and operated in the Queensland suger fields until the late 1960’s.
It’s been living it’s senior years at Alexandra museum.
Since 1988 it’s been bringing joy to many people operating regularly as part of our heritage fleet.
Make sure you come alone for a ride.

Something to look forward to at the Alexandra Heritage Machinery Festival October 7 & 8 is our traditional Blacksmith's display by our blacksmith Dale.

D.A.S Blacksmith combines traditional blacksmiths' techniques and craftsmanship with modern design to produce quality bespoke metalwork, They are passionate about producing hand forged bespoke pieces in a traditional manner with fire, hammer and anvil, He can take on custom projects and commissions. Working with each client from initial concept design to forging to achieve the best outcome so have a think about any projects you would like to discuss with him

Something to consider is D.A.S blacksmiths are based out of the Upper Yarra Museum and delivers classes and experiences for those interested in this ancient art, talk to Dale on the day if your interested.
Dale also has a deep interest in the conservation and restoration of old machinery.
In the spirit of keeping this ancient art form alive, Dale will be demonstrating live for anyone who wishes to see a blacksmith in action, and will be bringing a display of work to showcase

The branch line to Alexandra opened 28th October 1909 and our wonderful Alexandra railway station was completed in July 1911. It served the railway until passenger services were curtailed in 1945.
The line closed for goods services in November 1978, since that time it has been maintained by the Alexandra Museum.
To this day a scaled down train still runs around our grounds.
Come down and see it in action at our Heritage Machinery festival on the 7th & 8th October.

Preparations are well underway for our upcoming event, it is only 73 days away, but who’s counting. We have been getting great feedback from the community and exhibitors and it is shaping up to be a fantastic weekend. We cannot wait to see you all there.
