Visit Central Australia

Visit Central Australia The official tourism office for Central Australia, the 'Red Centre'. The Red Centre is different. Out there it is a bit, ‘out there’. In a good way.

In a more interesting way. Because let’s face it, who wants just the same old boring stuff on holidays? When you get to the Red Centre, you’ll feel like you’ve arrived in a different country, on a different planet even. A place where you will find the desert bursting to life.

🛩️ Mt Conner (Attila) is a breathtaking sight, often mistaken for Uluru by travellers coming from afar, eagerly awaiting their first glimpse of the sacred rock. Dubbed "Ole Fool-uru", this flat-topped giant is a true Red Centre icon. Have you ever been fooled by Mt Conner?

Our team has attended a Nocturnal Tour at Alice Springs Desert Park and we found echidnas absolutely fascinating! 🦔

This is what we learned about them:

Echidnas are solitary animals and spend much of their time foraging. They are insectivores, mainly feeding on ants and termites. They dig into the ground using their powerful claws and snout. They don’t have teeth - they use their tongues to grind up food 🍽

There are a lot more interesting stories about desert animals waiting to be shared at the Alice Springs Desert Park 🏜 Make sure to visit, when in Alice Springs 🧡

🧡Explore Central Australia your way🧡

Even though some remote locations are accessible by 4x4 car only, there are plenty of charming sites to explore when traveling in a regular vehicle. A sealed road paves the way alongside West and East MacDonnell Ranges, and most stops are located only a short drive away from the main road.

✨Go to West MacDonnell Ranges for breathtaking views and waterholes to cool down in after a picturesque hike.
✨Go to East MacDonnell Ranges for insight into the local culture and to learn about the Caterpillar Dreaming.

Save this post for 2025 trip into the Red Centre 💪

✨ Discover the Story Behind Alice Springs ✨

On the car park side of the Yeperenye Shopping Centre, a stunning series of graffiti artworks brings the Yeperenye (Caterpillar) Dreaming story to life. 🐛

This incredible Dreaming tale shares the origins of Alice Springs. The caterpillars, after losing a fierce battle with their enemies—the stink bugs—transformed into the breathtaking East and West MacDonnell Ranges, which now cradle the town. 🌄

For a deeper dive into this rich cultural heritage, visit Emily Gap, just a 15-minute drive from town. Here, traditional Aboriginal artwork continues to tell the story of the Yeperenye and showcases the enduring creativity of this vibrant community. 🎨
