Visit Central Australia

Visit Central Australia The official tourism office for Central Australia, the 'Red Centre'. The Red Centre is different. Out there it is a bit, ‘out there’. In a good way.

In a more interesting way. Because let’s face it, who wants just the same old boring stuff on holidays? When you get to the Red Centre, you’ll feel like you’ve arrived in a different country, on a different planet even. A place where you will find the desert bursting to life.

Easily accessible by all cars, 190km north of Alice Springs on Stuart Highway, there is a pet-friendly haven waiting for guests who are looking to charge their batteries and have fun time in the outback. Don’t be surprised, you may recognize your hosts from Outback Truckers and Outback Farm shows streaming on 7+ 😎

If Vincent van Gogh was born in Australia we would most definitely have Glen Helen Gorge paintings hanging in museums all over the world. Golden hour (either morning or evening) provides the best light to admire colour palette of Glen Helen Gorge’s landscape. Local flora’s greens and yellows, Finke River’s blue, and orange rocks create just the right kind of scenery for a great photo. Or a painting.

Glen Helen Gorge doesn't allow camping at the moment but the Gorge can be visited and it is accessible by all vehicles.

Keringke Arts is an arts and community centre in Santa Teresa/Ltyentye Apurte. Started more than 30 years ago, Keringke Arts is named after a culturally significant rock hole in the community. The Art Centre is Aboriginally owned and operated. While the stories and imagery of this vast country and its Indigenous people influence the works produced by the Keringke artists, age-old motifs, landscape forms, and movement patterns lay the groundwork for dynamic and contemporary artwork.

The gallery is open Monday to Thursday, from 9am to 4pm. No permit is required to enter the community, and visitors are very welcome.

1. Cassara - the newest and youngest member of the Keringke Team.
2. Margaret and violin she decorated.
3. Johnny Young’s “Horse & Cowboy” made from recycled material.
4. Cricket bats decorated at the Keringke Arts.

This site is known as Kunjarra/Devil’s Pebbles. It is located 11km north of Tennant Creek, a 6km detour off the Stuart Highway through unsealed roads thus high clearance vehicles are recommended. Time your visit for sunset to witness a spectacle of changing colours of granite stones at this sacred site. The tour can be combined with a stopover at the Telegraph Station and a picnic at nearby Lake Mary Ann to tick off the most beautiful sights Tennant Creek has to offer!
