Visit Central Australia

Visit Central Australia The official tourism office for Central Australia, the 'Red Centre'. The Red Centre is different. Out there it is a bit, ‘out there’. In a good way.

In a more interesting way. Because let’s face it, who wants just the same old boring stuff on holidays? When you get to the Red Centre, you’ll feel like you’ve arrived in a different country, on a different planet even. A place where you will find the desert bursting to life.

If you're looking for a hidden gem, we may just have what you're looking for. This little slice of paradise is called Ruby Gap and can only be ventured by 4-wheel drivers out in the East MacDonnell Ranges.

Ruby Gap was originally named after David Lindsay thought he'd found rubies in the bed of the Hale River in the 1880s causing hundreds of people to flock to the site. Two years later, it was found that the gems they'd found were actually just high-grade garnets and not nearly as valuable as rubies.
