Dennis Reserve Centre
๐ Hear what the newly constructed Dennis Reserve Centre in Williamstown means to our local community groups.
๐ณ A message from the Conservation Team ๐ณ
๐ฌ โDue to some spectacular plant growth in our conservation reserves in recent years, it can be hard for our conservation team to access areas to carry out routine weed control. A drone was used recently to identify outcrops of Bullrush (Typha sp.) which, when left uncontrolled, can take over our wetlands. This outcrop has since been removed. The native wildlife didnโt seem bothered by our presence.โ โ Andrew, Senior Conservation Ranger ๐ฆ

Ecological burn
๐ฅ Ecological control burns are scheduled from 30 March to 30 April, weather permitting, at the Maidstone Street and Horsburgh Drive grasslands.
Planned burns help maintain and increase native plant species and control weeds. It also helps regenerate grasslands, which support endangered fauna such as the striped legless lizard ๐ฆ and the golden sun moth. ๐ฆ
All efforts will be made to reduce smoke and minimise any hazards. Operations are generally completed within the same day, with follow-up monitoring to ensure the site remains safe and the fire is fully extinguished. On the day, Council has fire-fighting vehicles and trained staff present.
Ecological burns are guided by our biodiversity strategy. For more information visit
