๐ธ๐ง In celebration of Penguin Awareness Day today, we had a photoshoot with Little Penguin from Altona Library's EnviroCentre.
While penguin sightings are rare along the shores of Hobsons Bay, weโre occasionally visited by the charming little penguins from the nearby colony in St Kilda. These adorable creatures hold the title of being the smallest penguin species in the world!
๐ Weโre fortunate to have a taxidermied little penguin on display at the EnviroCentre. Itโs part of a fascinating collection of over 30 local native species, all available to view during library hours.
For a more interactive experience, visit our wildlife display at the Seabrook Community Centre this Thursday between 9:30am - 2:30pm ๐ฆ
Flying above the Altona Skate Park, the new exhibition at Airtime showcases the talents of seven young people included in the 2024 Woods Street Youth Art Prize.

๐๐ป๐ธ๏ธ You might see a few skeletons creeping their way from Skeleton Creek today!
A perfect time for internet rumours on why Skeleton Creek is named so:
๐ An old farm named Skeletonโs Farm bordered the creek.
๐ A lot of birds died after drinking so much water on a hot day.
๐ The muddy cracks of the dried creek gives the illusion of rib, leg and arm bones.
๐ It was once a series of seasonal waterholes thought to resemble vertebrates of a spine.
๐ Early colonialists drowned in the creek and within days all that remained was their skeletons.
Where do you think Skeleton Creek gets its name from?
๐ Happy Halloween ๐
