Eco-Logic & Splitpoint Lighthouse Tours

Eco-Logic & Splitpoint Lighthouse Tours Developing environmental connections through education Eco-Logic promotes a connection with the 'place' through experiential education.
(4)

Thousands of people each year visit the Surfcoast on Victoria's Great Ocean Road. We engage these groups and facilitate thinking about a wide range of environmental perspectives, from a wide range of environmental situations. Whether it be handling a crab on the rocky shore, or quietly observing nocturnal animals during the moonlit hours, many students have experiences that are meaningful, life-lo

ng and highly developmental. We teach a respect for the environment as a whole, by connecting with and experiencing just a small part during each activity. More recently, we have been able to offer a professional environmental consulting service for companies and individuals in the region that require these services. Eco-Logic staff are often multi-disciplinary, and combine educational with professional environmental science qualifications. Coupled with an intimate knowledge of the coast, we can provide specialised knowledge and outcomes on a wide variety of environmental consulting requirements. Eco-Logic has the advantage of being located on the coast for over 15 years, and has a highly developed network of contacts throughout the local authorities, which helps to ensure the best possible outcomes in the least amount of time.

ASHTON'S LIGHTHOUSE TALE
As Ashton hiked up the long winding lighthouse steps he could feel the sadness growing inside him. At school people often teased him because he couldn’t speak. The sadness felt like a heavy wet blanket always sitting inside him. When he reached the top of the lighthouse, he gazed out, mesmerised by the wonderful scenery. The violet-blue waves were so wonderful. Ashton could hear them crashing onto the shore. It sounded like whispering voices trying to tell him something. Ashton thought the lighthouse was the most marvellous place in the whole world. There was something different about this lighthouse, it had some kind of magic that no other lighthouse possessed. Unexpectedly, from the corner of Ashton’s eye, appeared a tail, a whale’s tail!
The Friday bell rang and instead of Ashton’s usual walk home he sprinted, hoping he would see the whale again. Back at the lighthouse, Ashton waited intently. Suddenly, out the whale jumped, entangled in nets. Night came and Ashton went to bed but he could not sleep because he felt the suffering of the whale. It was deep and painful and Ashton couldn’t just lie there and ignore it, but then he remembered a story his dad once told him. When whaling was banned, the last caught whale was buried where the lighthouse stands today. Ashton’s eyes lit up as he crept out of the house and up the lighthouse stairs, his hand at the ready to turn the light on. He thought the lighthouse might save the whale. Out the light streamed majestically. Ashton didn’t give up hope and in a few seconds out from the water emerged the beastly net. The whale was free! Ashton was so relieved and this happiness made the heavy blanket inside him disappear.

Protecting Paradise - The Wild Otways Initiative.

The Australian Government’s Wild Otways Initiative commenced in 2020 as a three-year $6M commitment to achieving on-ground outcomes that improve the protection and management of threatened species in the Otways.

Join us on an awe-inspiring journey as we delve into the heart of the Initiative, through this captivating video which showcases the remarkable efforts made by project partners, passionate conservationists, researchers and local communities who worked together to deliver this project successfully to protect the important ecosystems and wildlife that call the Otways home.

This project is funded by the Australian Government.

Here's to our local students working on the program, part of Rewilding the Otways!

For the past few years, we have been facilitating the program that provides students in our local region an opportunity to understand the environmental and cultural importance of coastal dune ecosystems.

The Dunecare program was facilitated by Eco-Logic, Bellarine Catchment Network and the Victorian Fisheries Authority.

Student participated in hands-on conservation sessions on Wadawurrung Country including weeding, revegetation, brush matting and cultural education from the Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation .

Hear from the students themselves about what they learnt, what they enjoyed and how caring for dunes can make a difference in their lives.

The Dunecare program is part of the Australian Government’s Bellarine and Great Ocean Road Dunecare Project and is a $1.5M commitment to conserving coastal sand dune native flora and fauna habitat at risk of erosion. The program is coordinated by the Corangamite Catchment Management Authority.

Thank you to all our partners including schools and land managers.

Eco-logic has a range of environmental programs available for all education levels.
Visit our website https://ecologic.net.au/
or give us a call for more info ph 03 5263 1133

We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land this program was facilitated on, the Wadawurrung, and acknowledge their Elders past, present and emerging.

Today, power company AGL has announced it will close the Loy Yang A coal plant by 2035, a decade earlier.

The news serves as a wakeup call for governments to take a more active role in the energy transition alongside the Latrobe Valley community and workers.

“What communities need is certainty. That means a proper transition plan and support from all levels of government, and rapid development of renewable energy in Gippsland to bring on new power supply” said Wendy Farmer, our Gippsland organiser.

29/09/2022

It’s a great day when you get to join Dan Andrews, Jackson Taylor MP and Kane Thornton to announce Australia’s biggest Renewable Energy Storage Target - 2.3GW by 2030 and 6.3GW by 2035. And we’ve announced two new big batteries, both with nation-leading grid forming inverters.

Storage is vital to Victoria’s renewable revolution - creating jobs, driving down emissions and helping deliver lower power prices.

29/09/2022

All around the country, communities are getting organised and making their own plans. The little Victorian town of Yackandandah has been at it for years.

Thanks to people like Matt Charles Jones from Totally Renewable Yackandandah getting together, the town is now officially powered by 60% renewables. Amazing!

Imagine if other communities were supported to do the same?

29/09/2022

Energy nerds will love this, but it’s good news for all Victorians.

We’re investing $119 million in a massive 125MW battery with a grid forming inverter. With only a handful of these worldwide, Victoria will lead the nation with two of these machines.

What’s a grid forming inverter? This incredible technology provides frequency control and mimics the inertia that coal and gas-fired turbines normally provide. It means more renewables in the system, more jobs and even lower power prices.
