Symian Association of NSW The Symian Association Taxiarhis of NSW SYMI - Just 23 miles north of Rhodes Town is one of the most picturesque of all the Greek islands.

Pastel coloured houses rumbling down the hillside to the harbour, wild herbs, the smell of freshly caught fish grilling over charcoal, small fishing boats and a maze of colourful narrow streets. Symi town lies at the end of a horseshoe shaped harbour and is split into two parts. The harbour of Yialo with its selection of shops and stalls which come to life when the day-trippers invade. Avoid the c

rowds by catching a small Kaiki to a more secluded beach. Peace returns once the excusion boats have departed when the harbour becomes the perfect setting to enjoy a meal in one of the tavernas. Nestling high above the harbor is CHORIO, a traditional village almost untouched by tourism. From there the road snakes down to PEDI with its small sandy beach, couples tavernas and bars, well worth the fifteen minute walk from Chorio. An experience not to be missed is "the bus" which regularly takes weary walkers up to Chorio, it charters down to Pedi and comes back again or you can use one of the island's few taxis. At the beginning of the century, Symi had an economical rising. The main product was picking sea sponges. The 30,000 inhabitants were also able to service comfortably off this product because their market was spread all over the Mediterranean. The beautiful beaches and the crystal sea, some of the many natural beauties of Symi. Other ports are Pedi which is a calm holiday resort, Marathounda, Nanou and Panormos. In Panormitis, there is a monastery called Taxiarchis Michael the Panormite which it represents the art and civilization of the time. It features a wood carved tempium, Byzantine wall of fresco, an important library and a museum on its premises.

🧺 SYMIAN MEMBERS PICNIC 2025 🧺

Today we hosted our annual Symian Association Summer Picnic for our members at Carss Park on a glorious summer’s day in Sydney.

Thank you to all those who came and the committee who volunteered to make our annual picnic such a success. We had a wonderful turnout, the bbq got a workout, we had a great buffet lunch and some loukoumades for dessert. ☀️ 💦 🍷 🏖️ 🧺 🍖🌴⛵️🍦🌺

It was great event to kick off the year at our usual stunning picnic spot by the bay with our beloved members and their families and we look forward to connecting with everyone again at our organised events in 2025. 🙏🏽

🎄SYMIAN KIDS XMAS PARTY 2024🎄

Thank you to the member’s families & children for helping us celebrate Christmas, Symian style last night. 24 Symian kids including some new members came on Friday night & rocked the house!!

Our hall at Annandale was transformed into a Christmas disco 💃 🕺- we had an Elf 🧝 coordinating the kids activities, Deano as DJ 🎶 💿 , we had so much pizza & nuggets & fries 🍕🍗🍟, Xmas cake & cupcakes cake 🍰 🧁 , nibblies & wine for the parents 🧀🍷 & of course a visit from our Symian Santa 🎅🏻 bearing gifts 🎁 & lots of laughs.

The kids (& parents) had such a great night and no one wanted to leave!

Thank you to the amazing committee for putting this all together.

Merry Christmas all!! 🎄🎅🏻

🪩💜🥂 81st Anniversary Dance 🥂💜🪩

What a great night! ✨

Last night’s 81st Anniversary Dance of The Symian Association Taxiarhis of NSW was a hit. 👏👏👏

Once again The Grand Roxy held Symians of all generations united (from boomers to millennials), their families & friends who were entertained by our live band IHO NYX & singer Tina who had everyone on the dance floor.

We were proud of the great performance by our Symian Youth Dancing Group who looked beautiful premiering our new Symian costumes once again. Thank you to our teacher Vasilios Aligiannis. 🙏

Thank you to Mr Bill Mougios & staff at The Grand Roxy for their excellent food & service.

Thank you also goes out to all our sponsors and donors. We are forever grateful for your support!

Congratulations also goes out to all our raffle & silent auction prize winners.

Finally, thank you all for attending, supporting us & for helping us celebrate another incredible year for our Association. We should all be proud.
