Channel 7’s ‘Sunrise’ is coming to Apollo Bay next Wednesday 16th November and Sam Mac will be doing his 8.30am weather report from the Apollo Bay Bakery.

‘Sunrise’ have asked for as many local school kids (and parents) to head down to the Bakery at 8.15am am in readiness for 8.30am. They’ve also asked for the kids to make signs to hold up during the weather report. Signs saying ‘Vote Matty O’ or hello to relatives and friends who are in Melbourne or inter-state and will be watching the show.

A big thank you to Great Ocean Road Regional Tourism for inviting us to be a part of ‘Sunrise’.

Earthquake reported…

A magnitude 3.2 earthquake occurred south of Cape Otway about 10 minutes ago at 4pm. This is the largest earthquake in this area since the magnitude 3.8 in June.

𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗼 𝗯𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 – 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲

We are asking residents and visitors at Marengo beach to please keep their distance and dogs away from a visiting elephant seal.

This juvenile southern elephant seal is shedding its hair (moulting), which means the seal could be around for six weeks. During this time we ask everyone to please remember these rules:
• People should not approach within 30 metres of a seal on land
• Dogs are not permitted within 50 metres of a seal
• Never attempt to feed a seal

Seals are wild animals, and keeping the right distance from seals reduces the chance of you or your dog being attacked. It may look slow and harmless, but it is capable of moving very quickly and could be dangerous if it feels threatened.

Warning signage is in place around the seal and one of our local wildlife carers will be monitoring the seal three times a day.

Today we spotted the Lightstation’s first whale of the season from the top of the tower!

Victorian waters are home to a stunning diversity of marine mammals including whales, dolphins and seals, and Cape Otway is a perfect vantage point for whale watching between May and October.
At the Lightstation we celebrate these amazing creatures year-round in our Whale Interpretive Area.

Visit the Lightstation for a chance to see these magnificent whales in their natural habitat and learn how to distinguish them from their blow (cloud of mist of spray formed when whales exhale as they surface); learn to recognise their shape and behaviours.

Stunning 👌🏻

Last night there was a super blood moon eclipse so what was I meant to do...go out and photograph it 😜
4 hours standing in the dark has yielded this image capturing the stages of the eclipse.
I shot the foreground as soon as I arrived at 7.15 which was lit up by the full moon.
I shot the lighthouse and sky in the middle of the eclipse where the lack of light allowed me to capture the stars and Milky Way.
And I then combined them with 9 shots to show the stages of the changing moon.
