Shelly Beach is one of the first ‘stop offs’ or exit points on the Great Ocean Walk, so if you want a short first day’s walk of about 8km from Apollo Bay, this is the perfect walk for you! 🍃🥾
We heard lots of grunting koalas on the way down to the beach, but the trees are so tall here we couldn’t quite spot them, but I’m sure they had their eyes on us! 👀🐨
There are decision points to consider so check the tides and swell before you head off. If tides are low you can choose a little more beach walking if you prefer 😀 www.walk91.com.au

We have some interesting visitors on the sand at the moment. The pretty blue shells are actually violet sea snails. They float on the oceans surface and create a bubble raft of mucus to float.
Washed up by the recent easterlys, they are not as big as the blue bottle washed up next to them, but just as amazing in colour

Princetown to the 12Apostles is a wonderful section at the end of the Great Ocean Walk. This is us walking approximately 6kms through coastal bush, gradually seeing these amazing limestone stacks come into view. 🚶🚶♀️🚶♂️🚶♂️Remember to stop for a photo op at Glenample and visit Gibsons Steps, before ending at the magnificent viewing platform.
It is certainly a walk to remember! 😍
Just get in touch if you need any help planning your trip www.walk91.com.au 😁🐨🍃

There was a warm wind today but the sun just managed to peek through ☀️⛅️

Look out where you step on the Great Ocean Walk! 🥾The blue tongue lizzard sticks out their tongue as a defense mechanism, hissing and flattening themselves to appear bigger and can grow up to 60cm long. They like basking in the morning sun and can be hard to spot 😳😀

Amazing days on Johanna Beach on the Great Ocean Walk. 😍🚶🚶♀️🚶♂️If you walk from Castle Cove to Johanna Lookout (9B on the map) this is a wonderful section of track of approximately 8.5km long, so perfect even for a day tripper!

There are so many beautiful trees along the Great Ocean Walk, deep in the Great Otway National Park. Some walkers are surprised by the many number of tree lined tracks along this magnificent walk. It’s not all about sandy beaches and cliff top ocean views! 🌊
Some of the most peaceful moments are when you are walking through tall Mountain Ash with just the sound of the birds to keep you company. 🥰

An outstanding beach you won’t want to miss whilst on the Great Ocean Walk is Johanna. 🚶🏽♂️🚶♀️🚶🏿
This is a wild and windswept stretch of coastline.
🌊However, although this beach looks pretty safe, caution must be taken where the river crosses the beach to meet the Great Southern Ocean. 🐟🐠Depending on the tides and swell, the water crossing can get quite deep, so remember to check your tide chart before you set out.
If its really deep and unsafe to cross you may have to turn back! (If you walk with us we will check the tides & swell and will support you all the way!) 🐳🦀
After you have navigated the crossing, you will head towards the two Johanna Beach Lookouts.
⛺️Here you may choose to camp in the day visitor area or in the Great Ocean Walk campsite, or be whisked off to your accommodation for a warm shower and a nice meal.

If you are ending your walk at the 12 Apostles, remember to nip down Gibson’s Steps to explore the beach if you have time (and the tide and swell conditions allow). 🚶🏽♂️🚶♀️🚶🏿🥾
Our days are getting longer now that daylight savings has begun, so it’s a great chance to take a lovely late afternoon shot of these amazing huge limestone stacks.🌅❤️
We have just had two magnificent days of blue skies here in Apollo Bay, at the start of the Great Ocean Walk; and it looks like kids on school holidays have been out enjoying it too! 😍
🌼🦋 Exciting news! There are lots of butterflies and dragonflies flitting on and around the Great Ocean Walk right now! 🌞
The warm weather and recent rainfall have created perfect conditions for these beautiful insects to thrive. With plenty of blooming flowers providing nectar along the trail, they’re out in full force!
Healthy ecosystems and conservation efforts are making a difference, giving these creatures the habitats they need to flourish
Take a moment to enjoy the vibrant life around us—it’s a wonderful reminder of Victoria’s incredible biodiversity! 🦋✨ www.walk91.com.au
