(90)

If you find yourself with spare time when you are travelling in the Barcaldine Region then take the drive around the Lake Dunn Sculpture Trail. There are more than 20 sculptures along the way as well as the renowned Gray Rock and Lake Dunn. Before you leave Aramac take the time to find the giant scrap metal Red Roo that is situated at the Roo works. This trail can be travelled either way because i

t is a circuit starting at Aramac and ending at Aramac and it covers a distance of approximately 200km. The sculptures are being added to all the time so the list given in this brochure at the time of printing is the most up to date and it is up to you to find them all. Many People ask how the sculptures came to be there. Ask a local and you might get an interesting story, it may be said that it was an idea by a Sheila with a few too many roos loose in the top paddock. In reality the sculptures are there because the local Sculptor (who resides on a Grazing Property along the trail) decided that she needed a platform to display her work and went about creating one of the biggest permanent outdoor sculpture exhibitions in the world. She did this for her love of sculpture and turning junk into art and also the wish to put a smile on the face of the people who travel through one of the most historical and beautiful parts of Queensland. The artist who creates outside works only on commission tries to add a sculpture to her roadside exhibition whenever she has the time. Now this well kept local secret is out and is becoming an international phenomenon with travellers who come to view the exhibition while they are in the Barcaldine Region.

For your information the Yabba Audio App has a voice guided tour of Lake Dunn Sculpture Trail available on their app. The app is free to download and then you pay for your choice of audio tour, there are many available, it costs around 14 dollars for each tour.
I don’t benefit financially from this app but I helped them with the audio when they were developing it.
It is great for anyone who is interested in learning more about the places they are visiting.

Did you know Muttaburra is the town closest to the geographic centre of Queensland?

Although Muttaburra is only small in population with around 100, it has a huge reputation for its hospitality and a strong community minded population.

Muttaburra's most famous moment was when local grazier Doug Langdon uncovered the fossilised skeleton of a dinosaur. The Muttaburrasaurus Langdoni was a land living, plant eating dinosaur that roamed the earth 100 million years ago.

The discovery of the skeleton was the first of its kind in Australia and Muttaburra celebrates this with a statue of the Muttaburrasaurus Langdoni in the Park in Bruford Street.

The Muttaburra area is reowned locally for being a great place to fish for the famous Yelly Belly or Golden Perch. There are several spots along the Thomson and Landsborough Rivers were you can enjoy camping, fishing and water sports.

Barcaldine Regional Council invites you to participate in their Instagram photo competition showcasing their region! There are eight categories to enter and it will be running from today to 30 June. For more details go to https://tinyurl.com/BarcaldinePhotoComp2023

I'm not trying to impress you but, I'm from Muttaburra. Visit Queensland, Australia

I met Fran Underhill early this year and she enjoyed the sculpture trail so much that she added another beautiful children’s book to her Edward and Tuesday series titled Edward and Tuesday Discover The Lake Dunn Sculpture Trail.

WHAT A GREAT IDEA !
One of my students: Milynda Rogers has created a world class sculpture trail in Queensland (probably the biggest in area in the world by one artist) Australian author Fran Underhill has created a very different short children's book that features this art trail . This children's book focuses on the journey of 2 stuffed animal toys : a sightless teddy and a guide dog (AKA Edward and Tuesday) If you want a copy then give Fran a call on 0427336054 . A great story about not letting disabilities stop you from pursuing your dreams.
Well done Milynda and Fran , 2 great Australians.

Check out this lovely book about the sculpture trail that has been compiled by Lesley Cowper with limericks written by Bob Marshall, both long time Aramac residents. There are lots pictures of the sculptures as well as other interesting features along the way.

A picture book with poems describing the sculptures on the Lake Dunn Sculpture Trail to create a memento for travellers to take home with them.

Hello world, would you believe that here we are out at the magnificent Lake Dunn Sculpture Trail and I am piloting the plane that the incredible Milynda Rogers created out of scrap metal. What a talented lady she is and this is only one of 40 or so she has built. Tuesday, mum and I were lucky enough to meet her when we returned to Barcaldine (which is a great little town) and between Ms. Rogers and our mum volume 6 of our book will be written and available within the coming couple of months. Watch this space!
But with Barcaldine, Aramac and Muttaburra, this region has sooo much to offer. Don't just drive through on the way to somewhere else. Stop and spend some time, you won't regret it.
We cannot wait to return.

This is a wonderful website to have a browse through if you are travelling into the Central West. If you have friends or family who you think could benefit from a tree change or who are thinking of a different career please share this with them.

Liz Baillie couldn’t just walk into a shop and buy curtains for her son’s bedroom like you could if you lived in the city, so she bought fabric online and made them. With the leftover scraps, she made a pair of matching shorts. Who knew where it would lead.

Wow this looks amazing 🤩

Whoa!! It's usually high and dry, but now this WWI memorial with a local hero at its core shows boats surrounded by water!!
Taken in Maryborough (Visit Fraser Coast) by another local, Nancy Bates, this incredible photo shows a segment of the 'Gallipoli to Armistice' memorial with Duncan Chapman at its heart. That's him in the centre depicted coming ashore at Gallipoli.
In fact, Chapman was the first allied soldier to set foot on the Gallipoli beach, and was born in Maryborough.
Winner of the Best Monument or Memorial category at last year's awards*, we never thought we'd see this memorial sitting in water. 😐
Maryborough, we're thinking of and feeling for you. 🧡

* This year's winners will be announced in March.

Great catch there.
