Richmond River Sailing and Rowing Club

Richmond River Sailing and Rowing Club The Richmond River Sailing and Rowing Club offers sailing for the beginner right the way through to the experienced sailor. We have a beautiful rowing facility.

Welcome to the Richmond River Sailing and Rowing Club (RRS&RC) Website. Established in 1937 you will find us situated adjacent to the Ballina Waterslide Park, on the waterfront of the Richmond River. We are a warm, friendly, social and family orientated club, with a wealth of experienced sailing talent as members. We sail and club race weekly from September (Traditionally father’s day is the openi

ng of our season) through to the end of May. We also run a winter sailing series, weather dependent. The season’s race/events calendar can be viewed on the club website. We have approximately 150 members, weekly competitive racing on Sunday’s at 1.30pm and a regular fleet of approximately 30 boats. We currently have four divisions - Monohulls, Trailer Sailers, Catamarans and Gennakers (mainly Formula 15s and RS 100s). We run “Learn to Sail” programmes; host a weekly transitional sail training programme from 10am-12pm on Sunday Mornings, with an affiliated sailing Coach. We have a variety of club boats available for members to use including, Lasers, Pacers, Corsairs and Bics. Membership fees are highly competitive and relatively inexpensive for what is on offer, and the amount of pleasure that sailing on the Richmond River brings. We are in a fabulous location, a fantastic club, and lots of socialising after club racing on the club Verandah, overlooking the river as the sun is setting. We have quality members that are enthusiastic and highly motivated who not only club race but also travel to State and National Sailing Events, and we seem to be a club that regularly breeds Champions. Annual Events include our club Regatta (November) and working bees. So if you are interested in becoming a member, you can learn to Sail, Row and Skull all at The RRS&RC!

The sailing club yard has been prepared for the arrival of cyclone Alfred. Many boats have been taken away, but those that live in the yard have been moved and tied up, to the lee of the clubhouse by Commodore Phillip Robbins, Rear Commodore Chris Hallett, and Michael Wiley who has ventured out of his skiff domain to help secure the Pacers. Bear in mind that some if not all of this work has been done in 40-50 knot winds over the previous few days, not an easy or necessarily safe environment to be in.

Huge thanks to these people!

There are now just two yachts at the eastern side of the club. ‘Pingu’, tied at two points to the fence, ‘Serenity’ surely heavy enough to stay put.
Phil and Chris also hoisted the 13 foot skiff via a pulley system under the club to allow room for an NS14 underneath to not be crushed if the tidal surge affects the yard.
Photos also of the ramp already covered in logs/debris.
Stay safe

Our two young members, Finn and Tara, recently attended the Ronstan junior foiling cup, at BYRA. The boat they sailed is called a Nikki, which is a mini skeeta.

It was amazing to see them out on Pittwater with some other wonderful youth sailors.

What an experience to be foiling at such a young age. Congrats to both. 👏 ⛵️

Four of our female members - Clare (myself), Kate, Laura and Amy, headed down to Pittwater in Sydney for the Magenta Foiling Team clinic. And what an incredible time we all had. All up and foiling on the first day. And safe to say we were all hooked after day 2.

We saw light to wild conditions. There was a lot of swimming, unauthorised pilot ejection, and screams of excitement as the boats took off.

We were also joined on the water by two of our young members, Finn and Tara, who were having a ball in the Nikki foils. Great representation for our club at two very exciting foiling events.

Big thank you to Maddie and the for organising a great couple of days. 🙏🏼 to all of the coaches, Jervis, Bridget, Belle, Heidi and Mina.
