It is school holidays in NSW and generally this means more traffic on our roads. The Northern Rivers has been hit with severe weather last week with high winds and heavy rainfall which may keep koalas higher up in the trees off roads. We ask you to please be extra vigilant - road signs may not be visible in flooded areas. Last week was a very difficult week for our team with five fatal car hits including a mum and her back young boy. It is devastating, senseless and disastrous to our koala populations. Please, please slow down and watch out for our beloved koalas, we really dislike sharing these posts because there is enough heartache but sometimes it's unavoidable. Our rescue hotline is open 24/7 so please if you see a sick, injured or orphaned koala call us immediately.

✅ Report every koala you see close to or on a road to the 24/7 Friends of the Koala Inc. rescue hotline (6622 1233) immediately, whether they appear healthy, injured or dead. This could save their life or the life of a joey in their pouch.
✅ Save our number to your phone so you are ready to report any sightings or accidents: 6622 1233. https://friendsofthekoala.org/koalas-and-cars/

Be cautious on the roads & have a great Easter weekend 🐰✨

Wishing everyone a safe and happy long weekend! 💚

The Easter holiday break is one of the busiest of the year on our roads & this means it is also one of the most dangerous weekends for wildlife collisions.

If you see an animal affected by a collision, always check the pouch and nearby area wherever it is safe to do so. Pouch young can be thrown from the pouch by the force of the collision.

Be alert when you drive and keep an eye out for wildlife, especially at dusk and dawn. If you see an animal needing help, please call WIRES on 1300 094 737 or fill out our 'Report a Rescue' form.
