Recently my friend Padma, from Columbus went on a rather unusual trip in North India, visiting four sites. Read her account of this trip that captures the essence of these four places, each very significant in their own ways - for being seats of religion, learning, ancient civilization and history. Lets walk through the Golden Temple, the indo-Pak Wagah border, ruins of the cities of Harappa and MohenjoDaro in Indus Valley civilization and the age old institution of learning,Nalanda. When it gets hard to pick a favorite! Some outstanding Sydney desserts 😍😋 Watermelon cake at Blackstar pastry, the Eton Mess, Rasmalai mousse and Mango-Pista Kulfi at Manjit's, followed by a Passion fruit dessert at the city Grounds. While the last one, a light fruit tart at a QVB coffee shop is not a top contender, it still was pretty good.

A couple of weeks back I had posted a video on Ladakh (also spelled Ladhak by some I see. Not sure which is the right spelling. Do you know?). Anyway, here is a post with pictures of my friend, Rama Vennelakanti who embarked on an adventurous journey as a motorcycle pillion rider through Ladakh - a journey of reflection as she chose to celebrate her milestone. She also chose to place her trust in the motorcyclist who she didn't know personally. Sometimes in life it is nice to get out of our comfort boxes to take a leap.

Kookabarrra in Sydney. Brought back school memories of singing this song. In India, we learned songs about birds we had never seen, of food we had never eaten (like hot cross buns) and of stories that were not ours (like ashes, ashes, we all fall down!) 😄 but we were oblivious and sang them with full gusto! How many remember these and many other nursery rhymes snd songs?

Awesome China Part 2, 2018 trip. These places were really my favorites in China as I continued my travels. After Beijing, Longmen and Xian, it was on to southern China. Rice terraces, the long boat ride on Li River, gorgeous Karst mountains, riding the bike from one village to another, getting lost a little, getting locked out of my room on my hotel balcony, watching an incredible 600 people dance show with the mountain backdrop ......totally unforgettable experiences with some stress thrown in at times with travelling solo. Awesome China Part 1. Had a one of a kind experience as a solo traveler in 2018. Beijing, Longmen Grottoes in Luoyang, and Xian were my first 3 destinations. The magnitude of the Great Wall and the life-size Terracotta army boggles the mind. Traveling in trains, making sure to get off at the right station seemed daunting before I got there but realized I had no need to worry! Longman is not a destination people pick but as I went there and some other offbeat destinations in China for reasons......read more about it and of my first hand experiences on travelstosavour.com

A visit to the Don Bradman museum in the town of Bowral, his birthplace, about two hours south of Sydney. Wished today that I could have taken my dad to this place. Growing up, I always heard the statistics of Don Bradman and his test match scores and batting average from him and today was a day to re-live those memories. And o' boy, look at that statistic staring at you! Was interesting to read about the stresses between England and Australia in those days which blew up from a cricket issue to a political one! A very informative and well kept hall of fame indeed to Honor Sir Donald Bradman. Many memories of other cricketing greats too. And of course, I wiggled a pic with Tendulkar.

Last September - 2023 - we had a wonderful new experience at the Amazon, staying in a rustic ecohome with a local Kichwa family, enjoying the che's culinary creations and exploring the rainforest, some hiking,walking up an observation tower to see the tops of trees and the river below, and hearing a jaguar get its dinner (the sound of the pig squeal as its life was cut short), the unforgettable sights of colorful macaws and parrots. What stood out in the trip was how it feels to be far from civilization and live life as it was a few decades ago, (and no airconditioning), The remoteness of the place, 3 hours by boat from a tiny town where there were no stores, no electricity or phone use after 10 pm, was a big change. Thanks Geeta Menon and Baldev for their fun company!

A scenic boat ride down a massive winding stream to Tam Coc grottoes in Vietnam. Our boat add is 65 years old. These boats are almost all “manned” by Vietnamese women. And they use their legs, not arms to row!! They are strong and can row continuously for 6-8 hours a day! Above is a paparazzi boat with a woman photographer who comes by to take photos as she’s rowing furiously with her feet!!
