I first discovered the innovative Stübben Equi-Soft girth 1 year ago. I was so impressed by the difference the products made to my own team of dressage horses I decided to find out more. I have HUGE respect for Eventers, and I love fitting saddles for them (mainly because they have every pad/ girth/ shim ever known to man hidden in their tack room! 😂)

Vaz and her team at Glenbaile Stables is next level. Vaz is meticulous in her horse management, has amazing feel as a rider and she runs a super professional yard. To be asked to fit every saddle in her barn is a privilege 🙌

Aside from pocket rocket Bijoux's development, the highlight of the day was watching Vaz fall in love with her Bates Advanta all over again 🤩

The Proof is in the Pudding!
Last week we had the lovely and very professional Beth King from Saddle Solutions out to fit the entire team for their mid season saddle fit, and while most of them needed some adjustments here and there as their bodies change with work and feeding the stand out was Bijoux. (Glenbaile Half Pint) The first photos are from 11th September 2019 and the last two are from 21st May 2020. Bijoux had started getting uncomfortable going forward so after some discussion it was pretty clear none of the saddles in my tack room were suitable for the pocket rocket. (Some people collect china...) So Beth measured the little guy up for his very own saddle! He measured a narrow gullet and it was decided we would order him 1 size bigger in the not so unrealistic expectation he would build up and fill out.
In November we changed all the team onto the Harrys Choice feed and well the results you can see for yourself.
With this feeding regime, good training and a saddle that fits Bjoux has not only grown and built into the larger gullet, poor Beth had to widen it another size he has build up so much!

I could not be more impressed with the Harry's Choice feeds that Sharman-Farrelly Eventing recommended and it is available in WA through Equine Advantage,

If there is one thing I am extremely grateful for it is the amazing professionals I have met on this saddle fitting journey so far 🙌

Given Amy's attachment to Mel, and her reputation as an exceptional human and equine therapist and rider bio mechanics coach, to say I was nervous when I first fitted Amy's 'special' horses is understatement! 😂 Amy is now a firm friend, colleague and much needed DNS coach 🌟

Time and time again I’m asked by clients who I recommend to have their saddle fitted.

Quite simply the answer is Saddle Solutions

When Mel took a step back from saddle fitting full time I was devestated .... how could I trust anyone else with my awkward horses!

She mentioned Beth would be taking over fitting full time and I thought hmm we will see 😂

Honestly I could not have been more impressed. Beth goes above and beyond with her fittings. She’s happy to go into detail for the annoying client like myself that must know everything 😂 her knowledge is incredible and her attention to detail ... wow!

I have been happy with every fit I have had and both horses are going exceptionally well. 😊

Beth can access a variety of different saddle brands and is an independent fitter. We just had a jump saddle trial last week. She took video of me in each saddle so I could see how I ride in comparison. The saddles she brought fitted Soli so well and fitted my needs. She made sure every trial saddle had the right gullet and fitted him the best it could so I could really get a feel for them! 😍

So if you’re looking for a great saddle fitter or looking to buy a new saddle Beth would definitely be my recommendation 💯

No one can become a good Saddle Fitter overnight, it takes years of training and experience. 🤓

Whilst I’ve been lucky to have been mentored and supported by Mel for the past year, an opportunity to shadow Master Saddle Fitter Brett Watson from NSW this week was a special opportunity. This is the second time I have shadowed Brett in the last few months and again the learning has been amazing! (Lots of interesting horses, so many saddles and a few challenging cases!) 🐴

Thank you so much Cheryl and Kate and the Horseland Midland team for having the initiative to bring Brett to Perth and to encourage fellow saddle fitter Susan and I to train alongside him. 🙌🏻

I’m off to spend a few days with Brett in his workshop next week in Sydney and will be back and available for fittings from Nov 4 👍🏻

Congratulations to Tash and Sundale Bellagio winning the MW 80km Endurance Ride and Best Conditioned in their division at Merredin this weekend.

Joe is obviously saddle fitted my Mel and trains and competes in his Total Saddle Fit Stretch-Tec Girth.

Well done Tash 👏🏼👏🏼

This weekend was the 3rd ride in the WERI Wicked Wheatbelt Challenge Series, with last minute horse change Tash, Joe, Jan & Bailey headed to the Merredin ride which was also hosting the FEI events in WA for 2019.

While Friday afternoon was cool and sunny the storm clouds rolled in on Friday night (15mls of rain overnight) before disappearing to make way for a cold but sunny day for riding.

Riding a big horse restricted to novice time over a flat course with electronic timing being used, meant careful time management during the 80km ride. Fortunately Joe wanted to eat his way around the whole 80km, was happy to relax when back in the hold time each leg making strapping times quick, giving him plenty of time to recover.

With perfect results in is log book, he finished 1st Middleweight horse in a time of 6hrs 43mins. The icing on the cake was Joe also being awarded Best Condition MW - what a way to celebrate becoming a qualified endurance horse 😄

And while this weekend was all about Joe, we can’t forget that Eddie completed rides in the 1st & 2nd events of the challenge, which allowed Tash to be the recipient of one of the Series challenge awards, a photo voucher from Downunderimages.

Some of you may have noticed a new face training with Mel over the past few months....

We are super excited to officially welcome Beth King to the Saddle Solutions team!

With Mel’s reduction in hours, Beth will assist to support our much valued clients in Perth as well as in regional WA from late August. Beth will be easing into the business full time over the next few months and we have no doubt she will smash it! S


About Beth:

“I’m am so excited to be joining Mel and the Saddle Solutions team! Having formal education in Science and Business my passion for horses has been supported by a successful corporate career in Sydney and Perth. As a keen and committed amateur dressage rider I am continually seeking better understanding through education and through the development of partnerships with trusted professionals. I have been lucky enough to have an awesome partner in Revelwood Royalty (Rio to his friends) as well as a very exciting young mare in Hollands Bend Franceska owned in partnership with Bella Robson.

I have been a client of Mel’s for the past 4 years and have always valued her eye for detail, her methodical approach and her determination to find the best possible solution for every horse and rider.
After undertaking formal study in equine anatomy in 2018, I jumped at the opportunity to train as a saddle fitter. Like Mel I am a perfectionist and have set high standards for myself! I am really excited to work with WA riders and their horses for better health, performance and longevity.
