I’m excited to announce that I will be paddling in the Hawkesbury Classic this weekend.

The Hawkesbury Classic Paddle is a unique opportunity to put yourself against the physical and mental hurdles thrown up by a 111km, overnight, paddle from Windsor to Mooney Mooney on Sydney's majestic Hawkesbury River.

My goal is to raise $200 for the Arrow Foundation the only charity in Australia dedicated to helping Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) patients. For over 30 years, Arrow has provided financial support for BMT patients and their carers throughout their treatment & beyond, helped health care professionals further their training in BMT related areas, and funded life-saving research into bone marrow and stem cell therapies.

Humanity at a Crossroads: Which Side of History Do You See Yourself On?

Day 285 of paddling every day for 2024 I woke up reflecting on the second line in our Australian national anthem reads, "For we are one and free."

But to truly live this philosophy, we must understand a deeper truth: when we harm another, we harm ourselves. We are all parts of a greater whole, connected by something as essential as water. You are more a part of the ocean than you are of the land. Water binds us, connects us, and sustains us.

So, I ask again—Which side of history do you see yourself on?

For me, I’ve been paddling every day (Day 285) searching for a middle way. A path not defined by the past, but by a conscious choice to live and love in the moment, shaping the future.

I recently spoke with ABC's Shauna Foley about an incredible event I'm organizing - the World's Largest Ever Paddle Out for Domestic Violence Awareness on December 1st, 2024.

The goal is to break the record of 511 paddlers and create a powerful ripple effect of support for those affected by domestic violence, from the North to the South, the East To The West across Australia

This event will feature simultaneous paddle-outs taking place at multiple locations along the east coast of Australia, bringing together ocean lovers and the community to raise awareness and funds for vital education and support services.

Day 276 of paddling every day in 2024—and still searching for that major sponsor.

I’m not great at asking for help, but I’m learning that together, we can do amazing things.

Recently, I reconnected with an old friend, a veteran battling PTSD and TBI. As his surf coach, I’ve witnessed the ocean’s power to heal, helping him regulate emotions and find peace through water therapy. Inspired by this, I invited him to join my 900-nautical-mile paddle from Sydney to Hobart next year, raising awareness for youth impacted by domestic violence.

Last night, we trained with Richard Barnes, who solo-paddled across the Tasman and was named Australian Geographic’s Adventurer of the Year. His story fired us up as we prep for the Hawkesbury Classic and the Massive Murray Paddle, all for a greater cause.

I’m paddling not just for the thrill but to bring hope to Australian youth affected by domestic violence. To make this vision a reality, I need a sponsor.

Reflecting on World Su***de Prevention Day: The Connection Between Trauma and Su***de

Sometimes, I paddle in a creek near where I grew up. It’s polluted, bordered by a busy highway and urban sprawl, yet it holds a deep lesson for me. Life, like that creek, is often messy, chaotic, and unclear, but always moving forward. It reminds me that change is constant, but so is the undercurrent of pain many of us carry—often starting from childhood.

I've experienced it firsthand. Childhood trauma leaves scars that run deep, and those wounds can carry into adulthood in ways we don’t always see. Emotional abuse, bullying, and violence aren’t just momentary events—they can shape a person’s entire life. The pain and confusion can fester, growing into battles fought alone in silence. For some, those battles can feel impossible to win.

In the past year, I lost two friends to su***de—I can only guess they were deeply impacted by the trauma they carried with them since they were young. The pain of their loss has rippled through their families, friends, and communities. Childhood trauma and unresolved emotional pain are often overlooked factors in mental health crises and su***de. The wounds we bear in our early years can shape our minds in ways we never anticipate, and if left unaddressed, they can drive people to the darkest places.

But I believe in hope. This winter, while travelling and connecting with communities, the ocean spoke to me: I am hope. I am joy. I am presence. I am love. We are not defined by the trauma we’ve experienced. Healing is possible, but it starts with connection, with sharing, and with the courage to look within.

Today, on World Su***de Prevention Day, I ask that we acknowledge the deep connection between childhood trauma and mental health struggles. Reach out to those who are hurting, especially the young people in your life. Let them know they’re not alone, that healing is possible, and that they are loved.

On December 1st, 2024, we’ll come together for the World’s Largest Ever Paddle Out across Australia with spirited.org.au this is a stand for hope, healing, and an end to the cycles of trauma and violence. We paddle not just to raise awareness, but to call for action against the struggles so many of us face in silence.

Be a community champion by joining this movement, host your paddle out at your local beach and invite your community. Share this message and stand together to , especially the youth, from violence and pain, so they can grow in love, peace, and unity.
