Today we landed at Jan Mayen island, one of only 3 cruise ships to visit the island this season due to the weather.

Jan Mayen is an isolated Norwegian island halfway between Svalbard and Iceland. The most prominent feature on the island is the snow-covered volcano Beerenberg and its ice cap. (Which we unfortunately couldn’t see today due to the fog) Although the island and surrounding sea have been used for whaling and sealing, the only people living on the island now are members of the Norwegian Armed Forces and of the Meteorological Station on Jan Mayen’s southeastern side.

We now have a day at sea before we finally arrive in Svalbard to find ourselves a Polar Bear!

Yesterday we arrived in Husavik which is framed by the majestic Húsavíkurfjall mountain which swells up behind creating a stunning backdrop for the town's tiny wooden warehouses cherry red houses and undulating fishing ships.

Guests enjoyed a variety of shore excursions, from a walking tour around town, to a hike to Lake Botnsvatn, a bus journey along Lake Myvatn to visit the magnificent Goðafoss Falls and a whale and puffin watching boat cruise.

This afternoon we arrived at Vigur Island which is the second largest island in the Isafjardardjup Fjord, measuring 2 kilometers in length by 400 meters in width. It is home to a single sheep farming family, which ferries the sheep in summer across to the mainland, so that the Eider Ducks nesting on the island will not be disturbed.

Guests took a leisurely walk across the island to take in the beautiful scenery and to observe the large colony of Arctic Terns, Black Guillemots and Atlantic Puffins.

We were blessed with sunshine again!

This morning we arrived in Bolungarvik and drove towards Súðavík village, to visit the Arctic Fox Centre and learn some interesting facts about the Arctic Fox.

We enjoyed a walk in the town, and a small performance in the church and continued to the avalanche monument, and memorial signs before returning back to the ship.

This afternoon guests disembarked at Flatey which is the ‘flat island’ just as the name sounds. These days Flatey is mainly seasonally populated with many brightly painted, wooden summer cottages to be found here.

Thanks to the surroundiung nutrient-rich waters 35 species of birds have been counted on Flatey ranging from Eider Ducks and Atlantic Puffins, to Arctic Terns, Red-necked Phalaropes, Ringed Plover and Snow Buntings

This morning we arrived in Stykkishólmur, located in western Iceland at the northern end of the Snæfellsnes peninsula.

Its natural harbour allowed this town to become an important trading center early in Iceland’s history. The first trading post was established in the 1550s, and still today fishing is the major industry.

The town center boasts beautiful and well-preserved old houses from earlier times.

Today’s incredible adventure gave a group of guests the rare chance to walk into a glacier and look into its very heart!

The ‘Into the Glacier’ experience was a fantastic learning adventure about the formation of glaciers and we fully experienced the true ‘wind’ of Iceland!

Today we set out on a full day tour of the Golden Circle where we combined the natural and historical wonders of Iceland.

We started with a visit to Thingvellir National Park, site of the Viking parliament and over 1000 years of history before stopping at Friðheimar farm where we had an introduction into how Icelandic nature is used to cultivate tomatoes, we sampled tomatoes and enjoyed a light lunch, starring tomatoes in the greenhouse.

After lunch we got to visit the magnificent Gullfoss waterfall and the spouting hot springs of Geysir!

What a way to finish our afternoon, although the Blue Lagoon is unfortunately closed due to the volcano eruption we found a brilliant alternative at the Sky Lagoon Reykjavik.

Guests Immersed themselves in warmth of the oceanside geothermal lagoon.

This morning we set off on foot to learn the secrets of downtown Reykjavik.

We took a visit to Hallgrimskirkja church where we stopped to taste some local Icelandic delicacies before continuing onto the Old Harbour, the Reykjavik Ponds, Parliament Building and Reykjavik City Hall.

After a great morning walking the streets of Reykjavik, we finished with a delicious lunch at the local Fjallkonan Restaurant.

Yesterday we left Oslo and flew to Reykjavik, Iceland for our 4 night stay before we join the Silver Wind to the Arctic.

Last night we enjoyed a very special welcome dinner onboard the world's most famous polar ship, Fram. A symbol of Norway's important role in the era of polar explorers.

We enjoyed a private after hours tour of the museum before sitting on the deck to enjoy a lovely meal together. A highlight of the journey so far.

This morning we took advantage of the sun being out and started the day with a highlights tour of Oslo.

A quick photo stop at the Royal Palace, followed by a stroll through the beautiful and interesting Vigeland Sculpture Park before a visit to the medieval Akershus Fortress.

Before lunch we took a stroll along the waterfront and stood atop the Oslo Opera House, home to the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet.

Yesterday we arrived in Oslo and checked into the beautiful Grand Hotel, with Norway’s best location, has been a landmark in Oslo ever since the city was called Kristiania. Proud and venerable on the corner of Karl Johan Street and Rosenkrantz Street, the Grand Hotel is Norway’s most famous and traditional hotel.

We will be commencing with a 2 night visit to Oslo, then spending four nights in Reykjavik before voyaging, across the Greenland Sea to the Norwegian archipelago of Svalbard. Site Inspection Update -
Dan is currently over in Bonifacio, Corsica inspecting the Emerald Sakara for our upcoming Mediterranean Islands journey in 2025.

This morning he climbed up (and down) the King of Aragon’s Stairs, a stunning, steep staircase carved into limestone cliffs, offering breathtaking sea views and a unique glimpse into the area's rich history.

WARSAW - Site inspection update.... Europe has many beautiful squares but my favourite is undoubtedly in Warsaw. Bombed to the ground during the 2nd World War it has been painstakingly rebuilt to its former glory. On Eastern Europe by Private Train in 2019 we have a free afternoon in Warsaw and I’m sure many of our guests will be found here enjoying the atmosphere. - Dan
