Gang hooks, they cost me a fortune to make compared to the returns but I wouldn’t change the way I process my hooks over buying open eye hooks elsewhere and praying they’ve been done right.
What bugs me is getting requests for supplying hooks that don’t have correct alignments in the eyes nor the tensile strength to handle being opened and shut again after manufacturing processes.
Conclusion- it works out cheaper to buy pre ganged hooks from a trusted source than it does to find the tools and the technique to match with suitable hooks and swivels.
Then add the thought of loosing a prize fish because of hairline cracks in your hooks. I’ve found all this out the hard way and learned from experience so hopefully you guys don’t have to.
I’m currently building this month and will be offering packs of open eye if anyone does want any with swivels to match not that they’ll be much cheaper than the pre made gangs 😝
Why buy open eye/gang hooks through independent small guys who make their own products?
For starters I reckon I go through about 10% in breakages during opening and another percent or two during ganging them. That’s less than half of what the average customer is likely break buying bulk packs of the heavy gage hooks for DIY. A saving to be had there for sure…
Add on the hours and hours of practice and expensive layouts for custom tools and time it takes to find suitable hooks that will walk over most brands and you’ve got yourself an answer.
In short we do the hard work to be held accountable whilst being affordable 🤟
Put the side cutters away guys, if the hooks are soft enough the open they’re soft enough to straighten 😝
Anyone want a BARGAIN barrier reef kit.
