6th DECEMBER is SAINT NICHOLAS DAY, better known as Nikolaus in Germany and Austria. In Switzerland it is Samichlaus. Nikolaus/ Samichlaus is a traditional part of the pre-Christmas period in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Children leave their boots near the front door on the night of 5th December. Children polish their boots to show they have well behaved throughout the year. The next morning, they should find that their footwear has been filled overnight with sweets and small presents by Nikolaus. 🎀🎁🎅👢
