Hudsonian Godwit, a very rare visitor to Australia. Showed up several days ago at Hays Inlet, Moreton Bay. Queensland. After 3 days of sloshing around mudflats, I finally managed to see and photograph this bird off Sandgate Beach. A lifer for me. Not the best photos, but they'll do. It's the bird to the right, the others are Bar-tailed Godwit

This female Musk Duck is an uncommon visitor to Sandstone Lakes, Ningi and is quite elusive. They have a low profile and resemble a Platypus in the water. I managed this photo after she came out from the reeds. Visit Bribie Island, Queensland, Australia, BirdLife Australia Moreton Bay Region Industry and Tourism

Just as we got out of the bus at Pasir Ris, Singpaore, this Oriental Pied Hornbill was upsetting the bird neighbourhood. What an awesome looking bird.

We need you to stand up for nature and for our birds. The coming months offer a once in a decade opportunity to strengthen our national nature laws.

The White-crested Laughingthrush is certainly engaging. A small flock of birds entertained us with their sociable activity for about 10 minutes at Bukit Timah, Singapore.

Another lovely bird from our Singapore trip, the Lineated Barbet

I just returned from an 8 day Birding trip of Singapore. A small island with 6 million people and incredible natural spaces from beautifully designed gardens that provide habitat for many species, to protected natural forest reserves. One of the common birds seen is this beautiful Black-naped Oriole.

The Javan Myna is a lovely bird and ironically is pushing out the native Common Myna in Singapore

The Lewin's Honeyeater, you may know this bird by the tremulous 'Machine gun' rattle song when walking through the bush. This one was photographed at Whitepatch, Bribie Island, Queensland Visit Brisbane 2032 BirdLife Australia Visit Bribie Island, Queensland, Australia

The Pheasant Coucal is a large bird often seen skulking in the lower vegetation. A member of the Cuckoo family, but unlike other members, who prefer to have others take care of the kids, it tends its own young. This one seen at Woorim, Bribie Island, Queensland. G’day, my name is Steve Grainger, a professional birding guide with over 15 years of experience taking guests on extended and day birding adventures
I am the Owner and Lead Guide of ‘Tropical Treks Birding Adventures’ based in Noosa Heads, Queensland, Australia (a region where over 40% of Australia’s bird species are found).
My knowledge stems from a lifetime of living and working in the Australian Bush. I volunteer with several conservation groups including Northern Gulf Resource Management on birding, mammal and reptile surveys within Aboriginal Lands and Agricultural properties.
I also volunteer with Birdlife Australia in providing educational tours of Mary Cairncross Reserve and surveys of the Yandina Wetlands, on behalf of Unity Water on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia
My favourite Australian place to visit is Cape York, as I have over 35 years of adventures on ‘The Cape’ and know this region like the back of my hand.
I have travelled to many places in the world in search of wildlife adventures, including Nepal, Turkey, Egypt, UK, Thailand, Middle East, Europe and more.
My professional accreditations include Ecoguide (Australia), Senior Savannah Guide and Wet Tropics World Heritage Guide. I also hold Wilderness and Remote First Aid certification.
