After a cracking start in Annecy, we are now based in Bourg d’Oisans, a town that needs no introduction to people who follow / love cycling.

Here we go again and I cannot wait. French Alps Tour 2024 kicks off on 6 July, but we are heading over a tad sooner so we can soak up the vibe in beautiful Lake Annecy.

Bring it on

Our time in the Pyrenees is almost done and today was one of those rides that ticked every box. This region is stacked full of the most beautiful, challenging, character-filled and quiet roads. With thanks to the Col de Couraduque, the Col du Soulor and the Col de Spandelles. Love the Pyrenees more each time I visit.

The Col du Tourmalet is known to bike riders the world over. It is the most climbed pass in tour history and has all of the elements that a cycling icon should.

Today was a struggle in the physical sense but the beauty and scale of the mountains brings rewards that always trump any suffering. Tourmalet ❤️

One of the many attractions (for cycling) of the Pyrenees is the huge network of small quiet roads that seem to transport you to a time and place where everything was slower, simpler and more vivid.

With clouds in the sky yesterday, we opted to explore a bit rather than head to the higher passes. Really happy we did.

Back in the Pyrenees, just love this place. First ride today included the delightful detour through Cheze as we rode down the valley to St Savin and Argeles Gazost. Coffee and pastry preceded the trundle back up the valley to ride Luz Ardiden via the less travelled route through Viscos. Surely one of the most beautiful climbs anywhere. ❤️

After almost three weeks of big days riding big mountains, there is understandably a little fatigue in the group. Nonetheless, in the last few days, most have managed to conquer Lago di Cancano, Stelvio (some twice) and Passo Foscagno. It all comes to an end tomorrow before some of us head to the Pyrenees, seeking new challenges.

Whilst I personally had a part rest day (turned back near the top of Mortirolo), the crew soldiered on, completing the fearsome and stunning Mortirolo / Gavia loop. 120k / 3200m, BRAVO!
