First, a wave of new craft beer-supporting venues opened up to give locals an alternative, and more recently they have been followed by a spate of brand new breweries: Green Beacon, All Inn, Newstead, Fortitude/Noisy Minor...

One half of the BBT crew is enjoying far too much quality beer so soon after the Christmas & New Year Festive period, but it is one reason why I am in England.

My challenge today is to get my tastebuds ready for BrewDog's "Tactical Nuclear Penguin". Here is some information on this intimidating little beast that will be enjoyed at BrewDog Newcastle upon Tyne.

"First released as the world's strongest beer, this is a completely insane product from the equally bonkers chaps at BrewDog. This fantastical quaff is produced using intense cold, utilising a process called "chill and skim" (which hints at how it works!). The result of this is an Imperial Stout that weighs in at a whopping 32% abv. Of course, they didn't stop there. After it was brewed, they popped it into an Arran whisky cask for 8 months, before a further 8 months in a cask from a famous Islay distillery. The result... Tactical Nuclear Penguin - BrewDog's first double-casked beer!"

We have dropped into an old favourite for great beer & food. The International Hotel at Spring Hill. A big thanks to Katrina for hosting us & also to Rudi for brewing owe some beer.
