Our most popular tour is back for another sunny season.
BEST OF MORETON BAY – SNORKEL TOUR AT TANGALOOMA WRECKS

This year we've made it even more epic. Jam packed with fun and adventure - This year visit two islands in one day, Moreton and North Stradbroke Island.

Snorkel the World Famous Tangalooma Wrecks on Moreton Island, climb the Sand dunes of Moreton Island, take some time to have a swim in some of the clearest waters in the world, and witness the abundance of sea life that our crew will point out on your adventure; turtles, dolphins, sting rays, dugongs and perhaps even whales!

After your snorkel, swim and activities we will make our way to North Stradbroke, passing the spectacular “outer banks” at Amity Point before landing at Amity for Lunch at the Amity Tavern. Lunch is included in this tour. The Amity Tavern with its beach bar vibes, operated by Jamie Vogler, has become an icon of the Straddie scene and a popular spot for Tourists and Locals to gather for food and a quiet drink.

We can’t win a trick! Howard Smith Wharves have decided to impose a $200 per stop fee to use their $5,000,000 government funded wharf. That equates to over $100,000 in fees annually for us alone.

Why is the government funding more wharves that are supposed to be for commercial operators?

If HSW had paid for the wharf, fair game, but this is government funding from the Tourism Fund that paid for these assets.

We will move to a different pick up and drop off location but I can’t understand why the government would be funding more infrastructure for them.

Friends

I would appreciate your valuable help/feedback with a new destination.

We have finally received our permit to land at Kooringal on Moreton Island. We are now making plans for this service.

Should our boat depart from Manly or Brisbane City for this service?

Thanks for taking your time to help us.

PS the pic is not taken at Kooringal, but does demonstrate the beach landing required at Kooringal.

If you are ever visiting Amity you may be interested to know of this story detailed below of heroism and tragedy.

SOVEREIGN
Horrendous shipwreck and the act of heroism

A framed coloured print on display in the first gallery of the QMM shows the ship SOVEREIGN in rough waters. Even if you did not know the story behind this piece of art, you could sense a desperate tragedy and feel fear of reality that happened.

One of the most tragic events in the history of Moreton Bay was the wreck of the wooden paddle steamer SOVEREIGN. She was a passenger and cargo ship running trips along the coast between Sydney and Brisbane.
In the early days of March 1847, under the command of Captain Cape, she ventured from Brisbane with 54 passengers on board and cargo of wool and timber. Although allowing the time for the superiority of nature to ease, navigating the route near the south end of Moreton Island SOVEREIGN struck a bar, wrecking between Moreton and Stradbroke Island on 11 March 1847. Of 54 persons on board only 10 survived.

The survivors owed their lives to the bravery of six Aboriginal men, who watched the unfolding distressing circumstances from the shore and risked their own lives swimming out to the wreck and pulling the survivors back to shore.
The Governor acknowledged the heroism of these six Ngugi and Nunukal men. They were awarded brass plates, yet more importantly, a first-class whaleboat was gifted to the Aboriginal community at Amity.
The monument was erected at Amity Point to commemorate the tragedy of Sovereign and pay tribute to the heroism of the six Aboriginal men.
