‼️‼️AWARENESS POST‼️‼️

PLEASE DO NOT COVER FIRES/COALS WITH SAND!🔥

A little girl and her family were staying here at the Weipa Camping Ground and playing football on the beach. As the girl caught the football, she landed in the sand which was covering a pile of hot coals from a fire from the previous night.

This little girl and her family have now had to cut their holiday short and head back to the city for urgent medical attention for the burns sustained to the side of her body.

DO NOT cover your fires with sand as this does not put out the coals, but acts as an oven and can hold the heat for days!!!

Please please please leave fires open and visible and preferably put the fire out with water 🙏

Quick trip to Victoria and back last week. Found myself on the summit of Mount Nowa Nowa admiring the view. While it was too windy to get the drone up I did manage to snap this shot. What do you think?

Navigating the vast landscapes of some of Australias most iconic areas in a four-wheel drive is a thrilling experience that comes with its fair share of challenges, one of which is trying to be prepared for all that could be thrown your way.

Regardless of how thorough your pre-trip inspections are, there are always those one in a million instances where things just happen. In this story it happened to me. Below I go on to explain what happened, what handy product I used and how I used it, to turn a potentially expensive recovery into a bush fix that was strong enough to get me home.

In the ranges of the Victorian High Country, whilst exploring some semi-overgrown tracks covered in patchy layers of dead fall I began to smell the sweet smell of the engine cordial (coolant), luckily for me before the engine ran too hot. Upon further inspection I could see the culprit, a small stick no thicker than my little finger pressed into the core of the radiator, some how after weaseling it's way up through one of the small air holes in my offroad animal bar. Once I pulled it out and removed it, the initial sporadic stream of red coolant was though I had nicked an artery and my vehicles lifeblood was now haemorrhaging like some CAT-Alpha casualty.

So what now?

In such situations, where professional help may be miles away, comes a product that I recommend keeping in your toolkit for such the occasion. That life saver is Selleys Autofix KneadIt. This versatile, epoxy-based putty is designed for quick and durable repairs, making it an essential item in my opinion.

For such a repair I needed to remove the radiator in order to have decent access to the damaged row. Once the row was identified access to the problem row was made by scraping the delicate fins away before making a clean cut with some side cutters. Pinching the row closed with some needle nose pliers I was now ready for the magic.

A small 3cm section of the KneadIt is all I needed per side. Ripped some off and began kneading it until it was a malleable texture (like thick play dough) and now a uniform colour. Rolled it into a tube to slip through the hole that's been made and pressed it into the now severed row and then around to ensure once set it could hold itself in. Repeated so to seal the other side of the row.

Once left to set (15-20mins) I could now begin to re-install my radiator and commence the bleed procedure to remove any air pockets that surely would have formed. And bam, before i knew it I was set to be on my way again... well after a huge sigh of relief that it was actually holding up under heat and pressure, I made the 100+ km treck to the nearest town likely to have a spare ... and some reception.

On such a repair, all though I had now received a replacement radiator wich I stashed in the back with the rest of my camping gear, I was able to start the drive of over 1500kms to home back in Brisbane to where i actually intalled the replacement radiator.

May sharing a tip that has greatly helped myself during one of those one in a million scenarios, go on to live in the back of your mind, so one day it can save you or your friend from becoming properly stuck in the sticks.

As I say, ITS ALL A PART OF THE ADVENTURE.

In the Logo - In 2019, I had purchased our Grand Cherokee which has been our means of transportation since. How do you test out your new 4WD? Take it to the Glass House Mountains of course. A few may have picked it already, that within the design of our logo, and to pay homage to its maiden testing grounds, the idea to implement them was coined. Behold the beautiful glass house mountains silhouette! Can you see the resemblance?
