Today we were joined by a man who is travelling Australia and documenting his travels. Josh even ended up playing the role of guide and cameraman! After a quick chat, the pair realised that they were both at one of the local Charters Towers schools at the same time, our visitor as a teacher and Josh as a student. What a small world!!

Yesterday we were joined by a lovely family visiting from Germany. Everyone found a good trace of colour in their pans. The kids especially had a wonderful time, repeatedly yelling out thank you while leaving the cottage!

Tuesdays 2pm session saw another group of people take advantage of the Gold Pass with a morning tour around the Venus Gold Battery with John, followed by a Gold Panning Session at the Miner’s Cottage with Josh. As per usual everyone found a good trace of gold in their pans and someone even guessed the Mystery Item shown on every tour!

While the skies may have been grey this moring it didn't stop visitors from learning all about the history of Charters Towers! Six people came from Victoria and 1 couple came from the Sunshine Coast, a lovely and smiley group!

David Brown is a rather infamous name in Charters Towers history with it being the name of the man involved in the infamous Murder on Mosman. Yesterday we had the Luck o’ the Irish ☘️ at the Miner’s Cottage.
This lovely family came to Australia from Ireland and tried their luck panning for gold. A nice trace of colour in everyone’s pan proved the point about the luck of the Irish….

Today marks the 152nd anniversary of the first crush at the Venus Gold Battery. The first crush was on the 16th July 1872, only 7 months after the declaration of the Gold Field and the final crush in March 1973 was a load of ore from the Proserpine area. Thus bringing down the curtain on over 100 years of crushing operations at the Venus Battery.
Tours around the Battery site continue to be popular with visitors and locals alike, usually led by our local tour guide John, providing an insight into the extraction process and the history of the goldfield. Tours commence at 10am and 2.30pm sharp Monday - Saturday and an extra 10am tour on Sundays.

This morning we had some visitors from Victoria who came all the way to NQ and Charters Towers in particular to catch up with Josh. While in The Towers they even came and did a session of Gold Panning and tried their luck. Josh reckons they did rather well which is always a good sign!
