He has been a registered commercial tour operator on the island for 30yrs and has current Blue card and driver authorizations. Alan's long history with the island includes his commitment to the conservation and environment of Moreton Island through his role as presi
dent of the Moreton Island Protection Committee(MIPC). Educational and Activity-based Excursions available include - dune studies, fire studies, bush transect, rocky shores transect, snorkeling, sand tobogganing, Lake Honeyeater excursion, Mt Tempest walk, the Cape lighthouse walk, Honeymoon Bay and North Shore excursions. Talks or a slideshow on Aboriginal middens, bush tucker, history, flora and fauna can be provided en route or at camp one evening. Other things to do include walks from camp(beach/bush/lake/heath/cape) , swimming (freshwater lake and surf), fishing (byo equipment), photography, bird watching and wildlife spotting (whales, dolphins, dugongs, turtles, skinks, pythons, sea eagles, peregrine falcons, brahminy kites, hawks, honeyeaters, kingfishers, curlews, terns, oyster catchers and more) .. or just relax in the shade with a book. Leave Brisbane from the Micat/Hawkins/M.I.Adventures ferry terminal on Osprey Drive, Port of Brisbane, Lytton. Ferry leaves 8.30am daily; arrives at The Wrecks approx 9.45am. Please be at least half an hour early for processing as the ferry does not wait. Car parking is available at the ferry terminal for a fee. MIPC volunteers' parking costs are reimbursable. Car pooling is always a good option. Alternative parking arrangements may be offered by Alan if available. Ask Alan if collection and drop-off for your group in Brisbane is available. The last leg of the journey to camp is by 4WD Land Rover or bus, taking approx.30minutes. Arrive in time for morning tea. The kitchen and dining facilities have catered 3 meals a day for over 100 people at times. Alan's fresh, hearty and varied menu is well appreciated by all his clients. All-weather marquee-style canvas tents are already set-up and can sleep up to 10 students on stretchers. Stretchers are provided. BYO sleeping bag, pillow & camp mat if desired. has its own hot shower which is available for staff/adults. also has its own Nature Loo facility ('the Tardis') close to camp for use after dark. Students use National Parks shower and toilet amenities, two of which are within 50m and 200m from camp. BYO torch for use in sleeping tents and along tracks at night. Available for day charter are 'Heidi', Moreton Experience's 33-passenger 4WD bus and a 10-seater Land Rover 4WD Defender. Moreton Experience has 2 purpose built trailers for luggage. Preferred minimum group size is 28. Smaller groups are negotiable.
