Next week, I’ll be heading to New Zealand to spend Christmas with my family just south of Queenstown. My daughters are excited to go on the Shotover Jet 🚤 and visit Deer Park Heights to see all the animals 🐮🐷. I will be sussing out some good restaurant recommendations for some clients while I am there, if anyone else is keen on any updated info from Queenstown, just let me know.

While I’m away, I’ll have my laptop with me, so if any emergencies arise, please reach out to me. For new inquiries, I’ll be happy to work on them when I return to work on January 2nd.

The Jubilee Year, a significant Catholic event, occurs every 25 years as a time of spiritual renewal, forgiveness, and celebration.

The 2025 Jubilee will begin on December 24, 2024, at 7 pm with the Holy Father opening the Holy Door of St. Peter's Basilica, followed by the Night Mass of the Lord's Birth. The event will be broadcast on giant screens in St. Peter's Square.

From Christmas Eve 2024 to January 2026, millions of pilgrims will visit Rome and other Italian holy sites. The Jubilee offers a chance for reconciliation, spiritual growth, and celebration. It is expected that millions of additional people will visit Italy to partake in these activities throughout the year so plan ahead if you're travelling to Italy in 2025.

The Jubilee Year is a double-edged sword for tourists. On the one hand, the city of Rome, along with its various landmarks, will be presented in its most beautiful form. In preparation for this momentous event, 100s of public works and infrastructure projects have been in operation to ensure the city is presentable to visitors and operating efficiently. Moreover, visiting during this time offers a unique opportunity to experience Italy’s vibrant culture and history.

On the other hand, it leads to overcrowded attractions, inflated prices, and limited availability of accommodations and transportation. One can expect:
🧳Record-breaking crowds: Popular tourist spots will be packed beyond capacity. It’s estimated that Rome will welcome at least 35 million pilgrims from around the world.
🧳Soaring prices: Accommodation, flights, and even food will be significantly more expensive.
🧳Limited availability: Booking hotels, flights, and tours will be challenging, if not impossible, at the last minute. Make sure to book ahead if you plan to visit Rome during this time.

Are the Horizontal Falls (Western Australia) on your Bucketlist??

Tourists will no longer be allowed to pass through gaps at the iconic Horizontal Falls in the Kimberley region by 2028, in a bid by the government to "strike a balance" between tourism and protecting the environment.

The marine park’s largest licensed tour provider, Horizontal Falls Seaplane Adventures, will continue to travel through the wide gap of the falls until March 2028. All other licensed operators will stop passing through the falls at the end of 2026, but access to the surrounding waters and air will still be allowed.

Turkmenistan might not be the easiest place to visit but with the assistance of Crooked Compass we achieved our goal of visiting this remote and reclusive destination.

From the time we arrived in the airport at 3.30am, the arrangements went very smoothly. Our smiling and knowledgeable guide and driver took us to our hotel as our jaws dropped in astonishment. The white marble buildings of Ashgabat were alive with light and colour. The wide boulevards were clean and orderly. Our hotel accommodation was excellent with a comparative five star rating. Simply stunning introduction !

The country is a treasure trove of history and our guide was a font of knowledge. We had long wanted to visit Darvaza Gas Crater and the glow of orange was spectacular in the desert night. We were intrigued by the long history of civilization brought alive by our guide.

Difficult to visit? Yes, but with assistance, very doable.
Worth going? A definite yes.
