St Luke's Church was designed by John Smith Murdoch, a Scottish architect who relocated to Australia in the 1880's. Murdoch arguably did his best work across Queensland, designing some wonderful buildings including Anzac Square, Webber House and the (now demolished) West End School of Arts..

Having being appointed commandant of the Moreton Bay convict settlement, in March 1826, aboard the Amity ship, Patrick Logan arrived in Brisbane. During his time, Logan built the Moreton Penal Colony convict population from 77 to over 1,000.
