Tullaree Homestead

Tullaree Homestead Tullaree Homestead, the home of the unsolved mystery disappearance of Margaret Clement, "the Lady of the Swamp" of the 1900's.
(16)

Tullaree was once the venue for high society gathering in the prosperous early 1900's. The Victorian style homestead has had a long and colourful history revolving around its past owners, the Clement sisters, and the unsolved mystery disappearance of Margaret Clement, who later became known as the 'Lady of the Swamp'. Tullaree has been lovingly restored, breathing new life into this once neglected

and run down grand mansion. Dark rooms, once heavy with the clutter of Victoriana, have been replaced by fresh calming tones. This has created a soothing ambience reflecting a new generation and a new chapter in this home's life. Original carved timber mantle pieces have been carefully restored and broken window frames reproduced exactly to blend old with the new. Sympathetic to the architecture of the home, some period and period-style furniture has been incorporated into most rooms blending skilfully with the modern day comforts and needs of a young family.

Happy 3rd of December. We continue to be asked if we are open for tours and when the house will be back open. The answer I'm afraid is the homestead is no longer open for tours as Tullaree is now our home and we have our family and young kids living here. However we do have something planned soon for an event here on the grounds for those wanting to still see the homestead...stay tuned....and we sincerely thank everyone for their interest and love for the history of Tullaree and the mystery of the Lady of the Swamp.

Sundays are for....child labour...? No..? ...!! Tree planting!!....we call it earning their keep time!! ...We are a tad tree obsessed with Lucy basically having a mini nursary here most of the time. Growing, grafting, propagating ... This property is very wind swept with generations of mass clearing sadly leaving hardly any little protective pockets here. So we're on a mission to change that! The importance too of kids involvement in as many tree plantings as possible is just so important too....so that they can have a connection to the land..they can appreciate the land and what they have grown and created to help the landscape and its creatures.

So many hidden gems here.. .as we are planting a lot of trees here on farm and in the garden....even Bendigo pottery was indeed good enough for Miss Clement!! Bendigo pottery teapots we have found here buried with other divine fine china. Some amazing peices and many other bottles etc. Would love to know if anyone can recognise some of the print on some of the China....it is like a treasure hunt!!

We are always blown away by how flexible these beautiful Californian Palm trees are and these Galahs......these Galahs are pretty mad here with some of them having to be rescued out of the chimneys here from time to time.. .the kids think Margaret has come for a visit...but it is just the Galah banging in their fire place!!

We wanted to introduce ourselves and our family to you all as the proud new owners of Tullaree. This is us and our crazy tribe!! New owners being Herb and Lucy Mackenzie and kids. We moved here from northern NSW at the start 2020 with our stock from 1500km away. Obviously it has been a mad and crazy time settlying in. Herb being a 4th generation grazier and Lucy being from sth Gippsland and from Tarwin allows us to have a great understanding of how this country works. It is great to be back in the sth with grass and rain and lots and lots of water!! Something for many many years of drought we missed terribly. Please continue to watch this space as we continue to bring you new and exciting things locally....we cannot wait to share with all of you many of our projects soon and into the future!!

Both Tim and I hope you all have had a lovely Christmas and New Year and are enjoying your holiday period.

After a very eventful 2019 we both would like to inform everyone that we have officially sold “Tullaree “ our family home and property.

We would sincerely like to thank each one of you for sharing a common interest with us in our home over the years.
We are truly grateful for your love and support as we kept the homesteads story alive. Both Tim and I feel so blessed having met so many of you and have enjoyed listening to the many stories shared.
We are sad to leave but equally excited for a new chapter in our lives .

We are passing on the care of Tullaree to the new owners at the end of January 2020.
They are a lovely young family with young children and it gives us joy to know that the echo of young children’s laughter will yet again fill the homestead.

As you can all appreciate moving farm is a mammoth task and the new owners of Tullaree will need their privacy respected as they settle into their new home and farming venture.

Therefore there will be no further tours of Tullaree Homestead until further notice.

Once again, Thankyou for all your visits and the many stories shared over cups of tea. We will truly treasure the memories for years to come.

Warmest Regards
Janet and Tim xx
