Sooo good in winter!!!

Winter has arrived at the Bunya Mountains

Greetings from the chilly Bunya Mountains, and welcome to winter in the high country! As one of the few locations in Queensland that gets to experience a ‘real’ winter, the Bunya Mountains makes you feel as if you’ve stepped into another world – one complete with an alpine climate, crisp air, fog, frost, ice and even the occasional snowfall. It’s a beautiful and refreshing place to spend a few days in winter, where you’re free to embrace the delights of being outdoors in the chilly weather and the comfort of snuggling up in front of a log fire in equal measure.

Winter is peak season at the Bunya Mountains, meaning availability for our properties is fast becoming limited. We are getting close to being almost booked out for weekend visits and the school holidays, so if you want to ensure your winter break at the Bunya Mountains, book in soon: https://bunyamountains.com.au/accommodation-search/

Love firefly time!

It’s the time of the fireflies

Have you ever seen a multitude of fireflies in a dusk-filled rainforest, flashing their glowing lights through the trees? It’s a magical sight that takes your breath away – and it’s happening right now at the Bunya Mountains! Our guests in October and November have the wonderful privilege of walking from Fisher’s Lookout after sunset down Bunya Mountains Road, through a galaxy of flashing beetles. The spectacle only lasts an hour or so each night from dusk until dark – but it’s an enchanting, mysterious and wondrous experience that you really shouldn’t miss. The time of the fireflies is magic …

Great initiative for the area.

Great initiative for the area.

Construction begins on the new Bunya mountain bike trails!

Construction has now begun on approximately 30km of mountain bike trails in the vicinity of Russell Park.

The pristine Bunya Mountains is an idyllic backdrop for these high-class mountain biking facilities, offering easy to intermediate adventure loops that embrace and celebrate the local landscape while providing exciting riding opportunities. The trails have been designed to be sustainable and respectful of the pristine environment, and will be a wonderful addition to the unique tourist experience of the Bunya Mountains.

The trails are set to be completed within eight months – so there’s not long to go until the Bunya Mountains can offer an adrenaline hit for all ages as well as the scenic beauty you’ve come to know and love. A whole new adventure experience is about to become reality!

So good!

See some beautiful winter sunsets at the Bunya Mountains

Winter sunsets at the Bunya Mountains can be glorious, with a broad spectrum of colours lighting up the sky on chilly evenings. Walk up to Fisher’s Lookout to admire the sunset and marvel as the sun goes down over the horizon which seems to stretch forever. As the sun dips below the skyline, the fleeting colours of sunset will turn the sky into glorious flame before dusk creeps in. It’s only momentary beauty, but it brings such joy and peace to the enthusiastic watcher.

There’s plenty of other vantage points around the mountain to catch the best view of the sunset (and some awe-inspiring photos too, like this one taken by Donna Glass).
