G’day nature lovers! 🌿I had such a magical morning on Saturday, February 17th, taking some fellow nature enthusiasts from Newcastle and the UK on our Platypus Walk. The early hour expedition paid off as we were blessed to witness not just one, but two platypuses in the same pond! What a rare treat to see these fascinating creatures interacting with each other, especially outside of mating season. It was a beautiful sight as a male and female platypus exchanged greetings in their own unique platypus way. Nature truly never ceases to amaze me! 🦆💚 #PlatypusEncounter #NatureMagic #ByronBayWildlife
G'day folks! ✌️ Just had to share this amazing morning encounter Tom had right before heading to work. He stumbled upon some red necks - well some Red-Necked Wallabies (Notamacropus rufogriseus) to be precise, going at it with their own kind of rumble in the jungle! 🥊🌿 It's not every day you get to see these majestic creatures fighting for dominance. Some platypus action from this mornings tour. We are not sure why one pushed a stick under its stomach, it was almost like it was scratching its tummy. It was also a treat to see two at the same time as they are usually solitary and tend to avoid each other.
What a great way to start the day.

Usually when we venture into the rainforest to see red legged pademelon's, they hide with their great camouflage and stealthy solitary behavior. If they catch us looking at them, poof, they're off. Except of course when they're mating, they crash through the rainforest, chasing each other and don't seem pay us much mind at all.
Red legged pademelons (Thylogale stigmatica) are a threatened species and it was such a treat to able to observe their mating behaviour. The nature lovers on our Wildlife Safari yesterday were stoked.

We were so stoked to be involved with the Tourism Australia National Experience Content Initiative. They set a production team out to film our awesome eco-tours.
I'd also like to thank Helen and Glen Kay for being our talent for the day, and Katrina from Koala Gardens at Tuckurimba.
We saw noticed this female pademelon, enjoying her lunch in the rainforest the other day. We were delighted when her joey popped its head out of her pouch to see what was going on. We see pademelons all the time, but its always a delight to see one eating, and one with a joey, is extra extra special.

I couldn’t get into the office yesterday because the power was off, so couldn’t pick up my you beaut camera. So I had to shoot the whole tour on my iPhone. Using our stealthy stalking skills, we were able to get close enough to still get some good shots.

We were so lucky to observe this mumma koala with her joey feasting on some delicious leaves yesterday, while on our Wildlife Safari.

Wildlife close encounters
We had some awesome close encounters on our Wildlife Safari the other day. We are very careful, to try and not disturb the wildlife, but sometimes they spy us.

Platypus this morning
This was one of the two platypuses we saw on this morning's Platypus Walk. We have a very small window of time to find platypuses in the mornings, we could stand by one pond and wait, but it would be a bit boring and we'd most likely get attacked my mozzies. so we look at ponds, we've had sightings previously and if we don't see a platypus within 2-5 min we move on to the next pond. We believe this is the "They've got to be somewhere" strategy. And if we go to this creek at dawn it usually works, as it did this morning.

I went out this morning to check on the welfare of the local platypuses, after 2 major flooding events in a month. And they seem fine.
Its lucky they’re incredibly resilient, they did survive the extinction of the dinosaurs after all.

We had a picnic lunch today with some koalas. Who did you have lunch with?
We had to temporarily change our picnic spot on our wildlife safari, because of the recent floods. We were stoked to set up our picnic with two koalas looking on.

It’s almost 3 weeks after the floods, so I thought I’d go out and check on the welfare of the wildlife we see on our tours. I must admit I was quite concerned, especially with the platypuses. Although I’m pretty certain some have been impacted, the ones I found, seem fine.
We are a resilient bunch here on the NSW Northern Rivers.

It’s been a bit of a crazy week. On Wednesday I started the arduous task of cleaning up after the floods, with some help along the way. The way the community has banded together during this disaster has been amazing.
I still have no phone or internet. I’ve had to drive 50kms north to Cabaritta Beach to connect to the outside world.
My night vision goggles have copped a soaking. Im still trying to dry them out, so have cancelled all night vision walks until I can sort them out. I’ve cancelled all tours for this week and next week, while we all recover.
If you want to help, book a tour.
This is my office after the Mullumbimby flood. I’ve salvaged what I can and will start the clean up as soon as the outside, which is covered in 2 inches of thick mud has been cleaned.
My computer and camera are ok, but the night vision goggles got wet (I’m trying to dry them out).
The sound healing at the Crystal Castle today, was Devine.

I went to the grand reopening of the new Minyon Falls precinct today. It’s been closed for infrastructure work for the past 9 months, which has allowed the National Parks have built a new lookout which gives people an opportunity to view these magnificent falls from a range of views in safety.
The recent rains have ensured the falls were pumping for their grand reopening.
We can now resume our tours and walks to this magnificent waterfall.

Aunty Delta had a live virtual Aboriginal tour today with some kids from the Gawura School on Gadigal country, they learned; some Bundjalung language, about local bush tucker and local history.
