That was Christmas 2023. Our lovely guests from Switzerland enjoyed their first southern hemisphere summer Christmas in Byron Bay, staying at The Lily Pad. We always like to decorate some of the trees with red baubles, and this year we chose a frangipani in a pot for the deck.

Our recent Lily Pad guests were lucky to see a koala mother and baby high in the tree right behind the studio pavilion. It was exciting for us to know that the koalas on our property are healthy, happy and breeding in the wild. They love the trees just behind The Lily Pad and you can see the scratch marks on the base of the trunk where they climb up. The property is uniquely positioned just 2km to Byron Bay town and beaches, and yet features around 30 acres of environmental conservation zone land, including koala habitat.

Early morning is one of the best times to enjoy the beach. Take a walk through town, along the beachfront path and up towards the lighthouse. Enjoy watching the town come to life as the sun rises against the brilliant blue sky.

Wondering what to have for a light lunch at The Lily Pad? Just pop down to Bay Seafood, just 5 mins away on Lawson St in Byron town, and pick up some supplies like this. In half an hour, and a little bit of effort on the plating up, thanks for the TV training, we had created the most incredible feast. We bought 1kg cooked king prawns, a dozen Sydney rock oysters and a $25 tray of sashimi.
