Green Sea Turtles love to chomp on grass 🌳🐢
We love swimming with these guys in the shallows. You can find them munching on seagrass under and around the jetty ☺️

We spotted these two love birds frolicking as we approached the Green Island channel. 🐳🐳
As per the GBRMPA regulations, we stopped, and all onboard were treated to a close encounter as the curious whales came in close for a stickybeak. ❤️❤️

Offical Launch Of Wunyami Cultural Walking Tours
A traditional smoking ceremony and ceremonial dancers treated guests on Green Island - Wunyami - for the official launch of a brand new indigenous tourism product now available with Great Adventures. The Gunggandji and Yidinji Traditional Owners have commenced Wunyami Cultural Walking Tours, providing an authentic indigenous experience for visitors to Green Island.
🌴Wunyami, which means “Place of Spirits” is Green Island’s original name. The tour, designed for small groups, is very engaging and interactive, providing a fascinating insight for children and adults alike. Participants learn about traditional food and medicinal uses of the rainforest plants, participate in traditional fire lighting techniques and can learn about cultural importance of clay painting.
🌴Elders Gudju Gudju Fourmile and Garth Murgha (Muka) say,” Our guides explain how the island is connected to an ancient journey of two ancestorial story-time beings who fought and formed the island and who still protect it today. This story is shared by the GuruGulu Gunggandji people (Yarrabah) and the Gimuy Yidinji people (Cairns). Our guides tell of the relationship of these warriors and the connectivity of this iconic island to the ancient seascape.”
The Wunyami Cultural Walking Tour are available daily and takes approximately 1 hour. Tours can be pre-booked with us or from the Black Seahorse gift shop on the island.

Propagators of the Great Barrier Reef
🤿🌿
Our Sales Team jumped at the opportunity to witness the @coralnurtureprogram surveying, monitoring, propagating and out-planting corals at our Moore Reef Pontoon.
They arrived with a to-do list ✔️✔️
📏 Ecological surveys (with the long measuring tape)
🔨Out-plant new coral fragments using CoralClips (hence the hammer)
🌿Monitor out-planted coral survival
🎥 Record fish interactions with new out-planted coral
On your next trip with us, keep an eye out for CNP Coralclip at the base of corals. If you see one, you know who to thank….

The rain stopped and the clouds parted for our Reef Health Survey team was out and about at Green Island.
The team took stock of some fantastic-looking sites around the island, as well as conducting some Drupella Snail management for some (we assume) very grateful coral colonies.
These conservation activities are made possible through the GBRMPA's Tourism Industry Activation and Reef Protection Initiative.

This week we were back out at Michaelmas Cay undertaking additional reef health surveys and conservation activities made possible through the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority’s Tourism Industry Activation and Reef Protection Initiative.
Our trained teams of marine biologists and divers were able to find and remove some Crown of Thorns Starfish and Drupella snails, known coral predators. Basically it’s pest management! It’s important intervention work to ensure our coral reefs continue to grow and thrive.

Reef Research & Stewardship Update: Green Island
When you live and work in one of the most remarkable natural environments on the planet, it’s only natural (see what we did there?) to protect it! Our conservation and stewardship activities are on steroids over the next few months as we engage in a very significant initiative made possible by funding through the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority as part of the Australian Government’s COVID Recovery and Relief Fund.
Our expert teams of marine biologists and divers will be visiting up to 78 of the Quicksilver Group’s major tourism and remote reef sites. In addition to Reef Health Impact and Eye on the Reef monitoring surveys, we’re also ‘hunting’ for any coral predators such as the Crown of Thorns Starfish and Drupella snails, and removing them from the reef where we find any. This important work will support and help improve reef resilience and data collected will in turn help make important management decisions within the marine park.
This week the monitoring team visited Green Island
