💙Highest coral cover in central and northern reefs in 36 years 💙

The most recent survey by AIMS has shown the coral coverage amongst some central and northern reefs have increased by as much as 9% since 2021 and this is the highest recorded coverage in 36 years 💙

This shows the small changes we make every day, goes towards keeping our underwater world beautiful and healthy.

Oh, Fitzroy Island! One of our favourite days out when visiting the Cairns. All visitors first notice upon arriving to the island is the stunning azure blue waters surrounding Fitzroy Island, which provide an excellent place for a relaxing day.

There is something for everyone! Visitors can rent a kayak, snorkeling equipment, hike and even take a glass bottom boat tour. After your hike to the stunning summit and lighthouse, you can cool off with a dip in the Great Barrier Reef and snorkel with the turtles once you’re done.

After exploring, stop by Foxies, the islands bar ideally situated on the beachfront to take in the stunning views.

Corals grown at Australia’s first offshore coral nursery have spawned for the first time.

The corals which spawned over the weekend were planted at Welcome Bay in 2018 as part of a pilot research programme at Fitzroy Island to develop a coral nursery, where fragments of coral are attached to underwater frames, which grow and are later replanted onto the reef.

Congratulations to all at the Reef Restoration Foundation, this successful coral spawn marks a critical threshold for Reef Restoration Foundation which was a start-up organisation building partnerships and supporters from nothing five short years ago. The team at Aussie Ecotourism are proud to have been able to see these baby corals in their infancy back in 2018.
