Notice of Lagoon closure for yearly maintenance work.

๐Ÿ“ฃ Community Service Announcement

The Cairns Esplanade Lagoon will be closed from Monday 8 July to Monday 5 August to undergo its biennial maintenance program.

The maintenance is required so the cityโ€™s most iconic feature remains in top condition and will include servicing and repairs to the poolโ€™s surface, lighting, pump systems and amenities.

The pool and its surrounds need major maintenance every two years to keep it looking and operating at its best.

We know that there is no good time to close the lagoon โ€“ it is used by locals more than any other public asset in city, and it is also a huge drawcard for visitors.

However, based on patronage numbers, winter is the best time of the year for the shutdown, with the least amount of impact on the city.

The lagoon will need to be drained to allow some of the maintenance to be completed, therefore a full closure is required.

The lagoon will start to be drained from 8 July.

The maintenance program includes:

๐Ÿ’ฆ Detailed survey of render faults and required rectification
๐Ÿ’ฆ Repairs to subsidence-related concrete damage
Sand replenishment
๐Ÿ’ฆ Amenities building re-paint
๐Ÿ’ฆ Pipe work/pump repairs and valve overhauls
๐Ÿ’ฆ Clean out of balance and backwash tanks
๐Ÿ’ฆ Cleaning and polishing of fish structures
๐Ÿ’ฆ General signage renewal around lagoon
๐Ÿ’ฆLagoon timber deck repairs and treating
๐Ÿ’ฆ Scheduled repairs to change rooms
๐Ÿ’ฆ The amenities building will also be closed for the same period as the lagoon. Alternative public toilets are in Fogarty Park.

๐Ÿšง The Captain Cook Highway will reopen between Ellis Beach and Port Douglas on Saturday 20 January at 8 am๐Ÿšง

โ€ขInitially it'll only open as a single lane under traffic control.

โ€ขConstruction will also start this week on a temporary single lane on the Palmerston Highway between Crawfords Lookout and Junction Road, to accommodate heavy vehicles.

โ€ขThe Department of Main Roads says there will be lengthy delays once the lanes reopen and it'll be months before both highways are fully operational.

Pets have much more sensitive hearing than humans and the loud, sudden noises may frighten them, even if they are several kilometres away.

If your pet is frightened by loud noises, consider bringing them inside, or to another part of your property where they feel safe during the fireworks display.

It is also a good time to check your fence, gates, doors and windows to make sure your pet canโ€™t escape.

Registering and microchipping your pet ensures Council can contact you if your pet does escape.

Many lost pets are kindly picked up and cared for by other residents, so having a tag on your petโ€™s collar with their name and your contact phone number will make it easier for them to be returned to you.

To report a wandering dog, contact Council on 1300 69 22 47.

Holiday Accommodation around Cairns and the Beaches

https://www.cairnsholidayhomes.com.au โ–บ Holiday Homes and short term furnished Accommodation, Cairns and surrounding beaches.

Nick and I have been looking after visitors to Far North Queensland for over 30 years. We built and operated a Wilderness Lodge near Cooktown and then moved to Cairns to be closer to schools for our children. Keeping to what we knew best, Cairns Holiday Homes was our next venture and our website listing holiday houses in the area has been operating since 2005.

We manage the bookings for the homes listed with us. All of our owners are locals and look after the running and maintenance of their own homes, so you can book knowing that they are at hand if you need help during your stay. We have visited each home before listing and Nick takes all the photographs used on our website. Let us know what you are looking for - we can help with suggestions to make sure the house you choose is right for your group.

We are here to help with any queries you may have before booking a home - one big advantage over the larger accommodation websites who make it impossible to have a conversation on the phone with anyone until you have paid for your booking. Take a look at our website and we hope to hear from you! Lizzie and Nick Marshall
