🌊 Clean Beaches, Happy Reef! ♻️

Last time, we took action on Frankland Islands, rolling up our sleeves for an epic Reef Clean with Tangaroa Blue! 💪 From fishing gear tangled in the tide to plastic that didn’t belong, we cleared the way for a healthier ocean—and gathered valuable data to tackle marine debris at the source. Here's our island guide teaching us about micro-plastics!

💡 Every bottle cap, rope, and lost flip-flop removed means a safer home for turtles, fish, and coral. Small actions = big impact! 🐠🐢🌿

Of course, no cleanup is complete without some snorkeling, wildlife spotting, and an island feast—because giving back to the reef should be just as rewarding as it is important! 🏝️✨

Celebrating Global Tourism Resilience Day with Heartfelt Gratitude

Today, on Global Tourism Resilience Day, we at Frankland Islands take a moment to reflect on our journey of adventure, conservation, and sustainable tourism. Surrounded by the stunning marine life of the Great Barrier Reef, we are reminded of the vital importance of protecting our natural treasures for future generations.

A Commitment to Conservation and Exploration
At Frankland Islands, conservation is at the heart of everything we do. Our mission goes beyond offering a beautiful destination—it’s about preserving and nurturing the incredible ecosystems that make this place so special. Through continuous research, coral monitoring, and hands-on conservation efforts, we aim to protect the delicate balance of life beneath the waves, ensuring these ecosystems thrive for years to come.

Resilience in the Face of Challenges
The past few years have been a test for all of us. The global pandemic underscored the fragility of our environment and the tourism industry. Yet, it also highlighted the strength of our community—divers, local supporters, and partners who helped us push forward. Together, we’ve weathered these challenges and emerged stronger, reaffirming our commitment to sustainable practices and environmental stewardship.

Sustainable Tourism: Protecting Our Future
Sustainable tourism is not just about enjoying the beauty of our oceans—it’s about safeguarding them. Every visit to Frankland Islands is an opportunity to reduce our environmental impact, engage in conservation efforts, and help preserve the Great Barrier Reef for future generations. This holistic approach empowers local communities, supports marine conservation, and ensures the long-term stability of the tourism industry.

Gratitude for Our Ocean Guardians
We want to express our deepest thanks to our guests, partners, and advocates. Your unwavering support has been integral to our conservation efforts and the continued health of our marine environment.

Looking Ahead
As we celebrate Global Tourism Resilience Day, we look forward to a future where sustainable tourism and marine conservation thrive hand in hand—preserving the magic of the Great Barrier Reef for years to come. Thank you for being a part of our journey.

With heartfelt thanks,
The Frankland Islands Team

BREAKING NEWS: Baby Green Turtles Hatch at Frankland Islands!
Frankland Islands, QLD – In an incredible moment for nature lovers and marine conservation, baby green turtles have hatched at Frankland Islands and made their way to the ocean, marking the start of their underwater journey.

Early yesterday morning, the Frankland Islands crew witnessed the last of the hatchlings scrambling down the beach towards the water. Crew member Jimmy captured the moment on video as a few latecomers emerged from the sand – stragglers from a major hatching event the night before.

Protecting the Nest:
Two months ago, Frankland Islands staff discovered turtle tracks on the beach, a clear sign that a nesting green turtle had laid her eggs during the night. The crew sectioned off the area to preserve the nest, ensuring the hatchlings had the best chance of survival.

A Race for Survival:
Green turtles spend their entire lives in the ocean, only coming to shore to nest. Each clutch contains 100–120 eggs, and around 80% of the hatchlings from this nest emerged the previous night—a strategy that helps them avoid predators. However, those left behind had to make their dash in broad daylight, facing increased risks from birds, crabs, and other threats.

The odds are tough—only about one in 1,000 green turtles will survive to adulthood—but these hatchlings are now on their way, carried by the currents of the Great Barrier Reef.

This rare event is a powerful reminder of the importance of conservation, as nesting turtles return to these beaches year after year. By protecting their habitats, we can help ensure the future of these incredible marine creatures.
