been operating for almost 25 years but has been locally owned, operated, expanding and winning awards since 2006. We have offices in both Cairns in Tropical North Queensland and Alice Springs in Central Australia. Our Tropical North Queensland magazine promotes the region during the Australian winter months to entice visitors from Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide to escape the cold and spend time in sunny Tropical North Queensland. The magazine is also distributed to a wide range of camping and caravan shows across Australia and New Zealand. Our Welcome to the Northern Territory Magazine is published in Simplified Chinese and distributed across China. We would love the opportunity to help you grow and advertise your business.

🌟 Animal Spotlight 🌟
Quokkas (Setonix brachyurus) ~
are small, herbivorous marsupials native to Australia, often known as the “world’s happiest animal” due to their naturally friendly-looking expressions.

Physical Characteristics
• About the size of a domestic cat, they grow up to 40-54 cm (16-21 inches) long, with an additional 25-30 cm (10-12 inches) tail.
• Weigh between 2.5-5 kg (5.5-11 lbs).
• Have round faces, short, coarse brown-gray fur, small rounded ears, and strong hind legs that help them hop like kangaroos (to which they are closely related).

Habitat & Range
• Primarily found on Rottnest Island and Bald Island off the coast of Western Australia, with some small mainland populations.
• Prefer dense vegetation and scrublands, where they can find shelter and food.

Diet & Behavior
• Herbivores, feeding on leaves, grasses, and shrubs. They can survive on minimal water by getting moisture from their food.
• Mainly nocturnal, resting during the day and foraging at night.
• Have strong hind legs for hopping but can also climb small trees and shrubs.

Reproduction
• Quokkas give birth to one joey at a time, usually in late summer or early autumn.
• The joey stays in the mother’s pouch for about 6 months before gradually becoming independent.

Conservation Status
• Classified as vulnerable due to habitat destruction, introduced predators (foxes, cats), and bushfires.
• Protected in Australia, with conservation efforts in place to maintain their populations.

Fun Facts
• The name “Quokka” comes from an Aboriginal word.
• Dutch explorer Willem de Vlamingh mistook them for giant rats in 1696 and named Rottnest Island (“Rat’s Nest”).
• Quokkas appear to “smile” due to their natural facial structure, making them popular in selfies with tourists.
• Unlike many marsupials, they can store embryos in a state of delayed development (embryonic diapause) to time births strategically.
