Join Sarah Stewart to hear stories of ghosts, history and true crime on a spooky tour of the Kingston Foreshore and Causeway

This is an outdoor event so you are required to have a moderate level of fitness that will allow you to walk for 1.5 hours for approximately 2 kms. Please wear warm clothing and comfortable footwear. This tour is held at night so please bring a torch because we do walk in poorly lit areas with some uneven surfaces. Book now: https://www.trybooking.com/CAJOF

This tour is not suitable for children

under 12 years. We believe weather really adds to the atmosphere of a tour. If there is rain, please bring an umbrella and or raincoat, and enjoy the tour. Tours will only be cancelled if conditions become dangerous – you will be notified in these circumstances close to the tour time. In the event of cancellation, you will be offered another date or refund. You may cancel 24 hours in advance of the start of the tour for a full refund (minus booking fee). If you cancel less than 24 hours before the tour’s start time, the amount paid will not be refunded. Have you heard the stories about the Monte Cristo Homestead?

In the 1880s, Christopher Crawley and his wife Elizabeth purchased a significant amount of land in Junee. They went on to build the Monte Cristo Homestead for themselves and their 7 children.

The rumours of the house being haunted all started with Christopher’s sudden death in 1910 from blood poisoning. Tragedy is alleged to have continued to befall the family for decades. Now it’s believed that they haunt the homestead.

But is this home really haunted or is it a bunch of tall tales?

In an exciting collaboration, we have teamed up with Canberra Museum and Gallery (CMAG) and the Royal Canberra Hospital (RCH) History Group to safeguard a unique slice of Canberra's health care past! From early medical instruments to nursing books and even bedpans, these artefacts tell the story of our city's health and medical journey.

Preserving these objects is more than just cataloguing history—it's about seeing how far we've come and appreciating the evolution of health care in Canberra. This incredible collection has found its new home at CMAG, where it’s being carefully sorted and catalogued over the next six weeks, with culturally significant items becoming part of CMAG’s permanent collection.

CMAG is offering a rare chance to witness this process firsthand. From now until 29 September, peek into the Circuit Gallery from Civic Square, Monday to Friday, 10:00am-4:00pm, and watch as museum staff and hospital volunteers work their magic.

Not only will you see history in the making, but CMAG will also be answering your burning questions about these fascinating artefacts. It’s your chance to connect with Canberra’s health care history like never before!
