For our Christmas in July celebration this week, our pastry Chef Clint made delicious Christmas themed cakes topped with a shortbread reindeer. For our dietary guests he made dietary-friendly reindeer cupcakes! 🎅🦌

This week Canberra Park celebrated Christmas in July! Our dining hall and reception transformed into a winter wonderland, with bon-bon's for all our guests. The groups were treated to a Christmas turkey dinner with a delicious festive treat for dessert. We even had a surprise visit from Santa! 🎅🎄

Our Quoll Pod is named after the nocturnal marsupial, the Eastern Quoll. Quolls went extinct on the mainland of Australia in 1963 but with the help of Tasmania, Quolls were reintroduced. They are carnivorous and their diet consists of small mammals, birds, reptiles and insects. Fun fact, the Eastern Quoll may look small but it is the size of the average domestic cat! Our Shingleback Pod is named after our scaly friends - the Shingleback Lizard. They are 1 of the 3 species of blue tongue lizard found in the ACT. When responding to threats, Shinglebacks open their mouths and stick out their tongues and have been known to bite when cornered. Fun fact - unlike most lizards, Shinglebacks do not lay eggs, they give birth to live young!

Thanks to the Student Horizons team in Canberra from Queensland who came to visit us to check out our student and group accommodation and facilities. Our pastry chef whipped up a delicious morning tea for our guests, served in our Homestead dining room.

Our group accommodation pods are all named after reintroduced species at Mulligans Flats. This pod is named after our prickly friends, Echidnas. These little critters are known for their spikey exterior and their long tongues. Like platypuses, echidnas are egg-laying mammals that also carry their young in a pouch like a kangaroo. Fun fact; baby echidnas are called puggles!

Canberra Park was thrilled to host the Geocaching 2024 Mega Event. Guests from all corners of Australia and around the globe flocked to Canberra to be part of the action-packed event over the Easter weekend. We were honoured to have Chief Minister Andrew Barr at Canberra Park to declare the event open.

Guests stayed in the comfortable accommodation pods or the tourist park. Delicious meals were prepared by our kitchen team,The Homestead was busy with a stalls and information sessions and the iconic Geocaching mascot, Signal, was part of the weekend events.

All of our pods are named after the protected wildlife living at Mulligans Flats here in the ACT. Our pod Curlew is named after the nocturnal bird the curlew, also known as the “murder bird” due to their alarming scream-like calls. These birds are ground dwelling, making them easy targets and causing them to go extinct in the ACT for nearly 40 years. They have been reintroduced in Mulligans Flats and their population has been growing ever since. 📸 Mulligans Flat Woodland Sanctuary
