Day 5 Lay Day Lake Burrendong. Bit of car maintainence in morning before spending the day around the campfire rehydrating from 1pm. Fully rehydrated by 9pm and into bed. Very restful night interrupted by 60km winds and driving rain. Fortunately Angelo managed to sleep through the whole thing by pulling the blanket over his head when he felt the first drops of rain hit his face.

Day 4 Mudgee to Lake Burrendong.
Rain overnight caused. a complete change to the bash route today and we ended up doing the whole day on the bitumen. Lunch was at Wellington where we set a bash team record of eating 4 dozen home made mini caramel tartlets. We had a Bash sanctioned afternoon pub stop at the Royal Hotel in Yeoval where we introduced the locals to our Paul Gallen cardboard cutout and helped them celebrate Mad Monday. Set up our campsite at Lake Burrendong before dinner and a private concert for 350 bashers by Joe Cammilieri and the Black Sorrows. Cracker of a night.

Day 3. Gunnedah to Mudgee. Just another day at the bash office Today. No break downs or bogging so. Locals reckon the country in this area is as good as has ever been. Looks spectacular. Caught up with the blokes who bought our first bash car which is ironically now themed as a Queensland car. We subsequently towelled them up in a sledging competition. NSW 2 Queensland 1

Day2
How do we summarise yesterday in just a few sentences!!!!!!
We left Moree all excited ...... Most of us !
Called in to to see Schippy's mate at Narrabri Bowling Club ..... we missed him as he actually works in Gunnedah.
Then off to CSIRO telescopes .......that's when things turned for the worse.
We discussed how we should make the Gunnedah pub by 4.30 which was bad karma because we only travelled 300m in the next 4 hours. The road became so boggy they re-routed the Bash behinds us and we were the second last car to go through the problem area.
You know your bogged pretty deep when you can't open the doors because of mud and the 45 degree angle.
Fos and Angelo abandoned their mates who had to hitch a ride on e bonnet of a car to be reunited.
things improved as Fos drove another car away and we were finally feeling team harmony.
After a couple of tow outs we eventually made our way into Gunnedah at 8.30 and caught up Fos who was less than impressed with the cleanliness of the Van.........I must admit a few pieces of KFC on the floor didn't add to his enthusiasm.
So sore from laughing !

Short photo summary off our Day 1

Day 1 Warwick to Moree. Not sure where to start a summary of the day. After breaking our car key in the door last night and then realising that after 30 minutes searching underneath the car for the spare that we didnt have. Located Tim the Warwick locksmith who opened up his shop and cut a couple of keys for us. Missed the official briefing session and dinner because if the above but slept soundly in the haunted Criterion Hotel. Made the start line in time and then formed a greeting party as the 350 bashers crossed the border into NSW. One of us suffered a cut to the bridge of their noses in a fundraising boxing match before heading back across the border for lunch at Texas. 5km out of Texas heading to Moree and websuffered a mechanical breakdown which required a new fuel filter and coil. Aborted the afternoon bash run due to time constraints and we are now heading to Moree via Gundagai on the bitumen. Sore in the guts from laughing.

Day 10 Mareeba to Mission Beach (the finish line). 5.30 start to pick up windscreen in cairns. Driving through pea soup fog in the dark in heavy dew not the best way to start the day but had to be done so we could finish the bash. Met up with fellow bashers for lunch at Sth Johnstone state school where we again roundly booed by all students. Final authorised pub stop for bash before travelling as a group of 120 vehicles to the finish line at Mission Beach. Great bash, a million stories, new mates, a stack of kids and schools helped out and just good old fashioned fun. If anybody has any thoughts ir dreams of doing a bash, just do it.

Day 9 Georgetown to Mareeba. Due to the broken windscreen incident late yesterday we were forced to travel by bitumen to Mareeba. We looked a treat in our safety goggles and holding up esky lids fending off the stones kicked up by other cars. Pretty slow and uneventful trip until Mt Surprise. Came across a free automatic underbody truck wash on the side of the road. Drove up onto the grid and realised too late that the underbody truck wash also did side and front windscreen. Consequently with no windscreen we washed inside if car as well. Arrived in Mareeba to pick up new windscreen only to find wrong one was sent which will require a trip to Cairns at 6 oclock in the morning for a windscreen fitting so we can finish the last leg of the bash to Mission Beach

Day 8 Normanton to Georgetown. 430km on bash route. Start line Normanton rail station and then to morning tea at Critters Camp where some of the bashers who went for a ride in the train met up with us. It was also the venue for state of origin billy cart race where i am proud to report that the nsw blues car was victorous over the qld team despite a hostile crowd of 350 & numerous attempts at sabotage. Fuelled by adrenalin if wining, Fos as the billy cart pusher, actually sped up after crossing the finish line resulting in us running into the crowd, injuring a spectator and requiring Glen to attend the ambulance for treatment for a gash on the shin to the bone. He spent the next 4 hours in the recovery limousine having his every need attended too. Lunch at historic gold mine site of Croyden and ready for afternoon stint to Georgetown.

Day 7 Mt Isa to Normanton. About 6 1/2 hours driving and again mainly on dirt. Lunch at Burke & Wills roudhouse with 400 odd bashers before arriving at Normanton and a visit to famous Purple Pub. Bulldust is getting in everywhere, car, bags, nose, eyes and everywhere else you can think of. Heading east tomorrow and school visits ramp up so we expect plenty of booing. Off to tea at Normanton Rodeo grounds and early start in morning.

10/08/2013

Day 6 Rest Day in Mt Isa. Washing, rodeo from 10am, shower(yes thats a highlight), helicopter ride over Isa, watched a few casino boys compete at the rodeo(Beau Creighton, Breece Flocchini & Dylan Talbot), few cold beers and plenty of laughs. Wih you were all here.

Day 5 Boulia to Mt Isa 376 km. More dirt and dust but finally made it to Mt Isa. Lunch at town called Duchess population 3. Duchess Hotel limited on facilities but big on entertainment. Had a quick tour of Mt Isa courtesy of casino boy Adam McDonald before participating in Mt Isa Rodeo street parade. Roundly booed by all from kids to grandmothers and worried at one stage we may have caused a riot. Having Foster hanging out the window calling the queenslanders a bunch of two headed clowns didnt help. Went to rodeo and met up with couple of casino junior steer riders who are riding on Saturday. Go the blues

Day 4 Winton to Boulia 476 km. Dry dusty and flat as tack. Lovely picnic lunch at billabing where Fos had a fish but no luck. Made it to Boulia early and got a grass campsite and after we rolled in it for a while walked to the only pub in boulia only to find the power was out. Fortunately the publican was from NSW and we still managed to enjoy the night

Day 3 - Stonehenge to Winton via nowhere. 366 km of driving on dirt roads for all but 50 km. Visibilty down to 10 metre on some occasions due to amount of dust stirred up by 140 vehicles on bash. Plenty of other hazards as well emus, kangaroos and cattle just to make it a bit more interesting. Hot and dusty but early finish and a cold beer made for a great end to the day.
