The Vatican Museums were a wonder to behold. The atmosphere, the art, and timelessness of the place was breathtaking. If you’re planning a visit, here are things I learned when I was there…

🇮🇹Explore the Hidden Gems: The museums house lesser-known masterpieces. For instance, Vincent van Gogh's Pietà and Auguste Rodin's The Thinker are tucked away in the Borgia Apartments. These artworks often attract fewer visitors, offering a more intimate viewing experience.

🇮🇹Visit During Extended Hours: Starting January of last year, the Vatican Museums have extended their visiting hours, opening at 8 am and closing at 7 pm. Additionally, from March 2024, on Fridays and Saturdays, they remain open until 8 pm. Unsure how to fit this into your itinerary? I can help!

🇮🇹Adhere to the Dress Code: It's essential to dress modestly when visiting the Vatican Museums. Ensure that shoulders and knees are covered to respect the sacred nature of the site and to avoid being denied entry.

🇮🇹Consider a Guided Tour: Even for seasoned travellers, a guided tour can provide deeper insights into the art and history of the museums. Knowledgeable guides often share fascinating anecdotes and can navigate efficiently through the vast collections, ensuring you don't miss significant pieces.

🇮🇹Plan Your Route: The Vatican Museums encompass approximately 7.5 kilometers (4.5 miles) of exhibition space. To make the most of your visit, prioritize the sections you wish to see and be prepared for extensive walking. Wearing comfortable shoes and taking regular breaks can make the experience more enjoyable.

Late last year, it was announced that there will be a queueing system implemented at the Trevi Fountain. When I visited back in 2018, it was quiet crowded as expected of such a world-famous hotspot, but it was gorgeous all the same.

Can you believe that 10,000 up to 20,000 tourists are there in a day? Back in 2012, parts of it started to crumble and has since been restored, and now, the queueing system is in place to better protect the marvellous fountain.

What do you think? Were you able to visit before the queueing was implemented, and are you willing to wait possibly hours to get close to the Trevi Fountain in the future?

Here are five secrets I learned in Rome to ensure you're indulging in the creamiest, most authentic scoops of gelato:

🍦Avoid the Overly Bright Colours
Authentic gelato is made with natural ingredients, so colours should be muted. For example, pistachio should be a pale green (not bright or neon!) and banana should be beige or off white, not yellow.

🍦Look for “Artigianale”
Seek out gelaterias labelled as gelato artigianale (artisan gelato). This means it’s handmade in small batches, often with fresh, local ingredients, and without artificial additives.

🍦Check the Containers
Gelato stored in covered metal containers is a good sign of quality. Avoid shops with gelato piled into mountains (this means it has extra stabilisers and air in it)–which are the ones you’d often see in tourist-filled areas.

🍦Seasonal Fruit Telltales
The best gelaterias use seasonal fruits and ingredients. If it’s winter and you see fresh strawberry gelato, it’s likely not made with real fruit. Opt for flavours like hazelnut, chestnut, or citrus in cooler months.

🍦Ask Locals for Recommendations
Locals often know hidden gems off the tourist path. Even a quick chat with your waiter or shopkeeper can lead to the most unforgettable gelato experience!
Bonus Tip:
When in doubt, try classic Italian flavours like nocciola (hazelnut), stracciatella (chocolate chip), or fior di latte (pure milk cream). These are excellent benchmarks of a gelateria’s quality.

Whether you’re a “pack a month ahead” or “pack the night before” kind of traveller, you MUST have the following for your cruise in Alaska. Take note, the last 2 are so often overlooked!

❄️ Trusty puffer jacket - Best to keep you insulated on and onboard and during excursions. You’ll also want to pack a waterproof or water resistant outer jacket for added protection.
❄️ Ear muffs - Winds can get really cold and they feel like they’re cutting into your skin so protect all exposed parts of your head for added warmth.
❄️ Scarf - As above, this is also very handy when it comes to adding more protection from the cold.
❄️ Beanie - Another “stay toasty” essential. 😉
❄️ Backpack - To have all of your essentials in, of course! AND inside your backpack, you should also have a thermal water bottle for a quick sip of something warm. 👀
❄️ Gloves - I suggest getting the ones which allow you to use your phone even without removing them. They’re a real life saver and cuts the hassle of taking gloves off and then putting them on again.
❄️ SPF - Yes! Both for your body (mostly face since you’re all bundled up) and lips. The sun’s rays are reflected by the pure white snow and you’d be surprised at how sunburnt you can get.
❄️ Binoculars - This is a special one—for when you’re out on your balcony and just waiting for special appearances from the wildlife. Trust me, you’re gonna want to have binoculars for when you see seals and whales off in the distance.

Which one would you pick—38 countries over 158 days… or a cruise from Tokyo to Vancouver visiting 4 countries for 39 nights?

With Azamara Cruises' Grand Voyages, it sure is hard to pick! Just take a look at only some of the snaps I took aboard the Azamara Pursuit. A stunning ship with so many recreational areas, your time at sea while waiting for your next stop will feel like a dream.

My favourite? The relaxed atmosphere Sanctum Spa and The Drawing room. At the Sanctum, a wide range of relaxing therapies are available—think hot stone massages and even acupuncture. If you prefer some quiet time, the ambience at The Drawing room is just top tier. 👌🏻

So, which will it be for you? a 158-day cruise or the shorter yet equally luxurious 39-night adventure? Rates start at AUD$13,289* pp, twin share.

Get in touch at [email protected] and I’ll tell you more about this.

“Stories of the land”—how many times have we heard this phrase? In Tahiti, there’s so much more to this phrase and it’s something I highly recommend you experience.

Witness or learn the vibrant and hypnotic traditional dance of Tahiti, accompanied by rhythmic drumming, telling stories of Polynesian history and legends. Ori Tahiti, apart from being a captivating performance, tells the stories of the land, the sea, the people, and the gods from the olden days.

Hotels in Tahiti often have cultural nights that entrance guests with such performances. If you want to take it a step further, classes are available too and you can learn from local masters and take home some of the moves and stories with you. It’s a fun way to be immersed in a new culture, and something great to try with your family as well. 🌺

Cruising in Alaska is truly extraordinary! Let me share some highlights from my own adventure:

The Scenery's Sheer Majesty
Alaska’s natural beauty is breathtaking—snow-capped mountains, endless pine forests, and glaciers glowing blue in the sunlight. Standing on the ship’s deck in Glacier Bay National Park, I heard the thunderous crack of ice calving into the sea. It’s unforgettable.

Wildlife Encounters
Cruising offers the best vantage point for wildlife. I saw humpback whales breaching, playful sea otters, bald eagles soaring, and even a curious harbour seal. If you’re lucky, you might spot a pod of orcas too!

The Changing Weather
Alaska’s weather keeps you on your toes. One moment, sunshine; the next, a chilly breeze. A good waterproof jacket is essential—drizzle is common, especially in the Inside Passage.

Unique Shore Excursions
The excursions were the highlight. I took a helicopter to a glacier in Juneau, hiked across the ice with crampons, and rode the historic White Pass & Yukon Route railway in Skagway. Every port offered something unique.

The Midnight Sun
Cruising during Alaska’s long daylight hours is magical. Watching the sunset near midnight from my balcony was surreal—extra time to soak in the views.

Fresh Seafood
Alaska’s seafood is unbeatable. I still dream about the king crab legs and locally sourced salmon onboard. Simply phenomenal.

Glacier Bay National Park
Cruising through Glacier Bay felt spiritual—so peaceful and pristine, like stepping into an untouched world.

A Deeper Connection to Nature
This journey gave me a profound appreciation for our planet. Alaska’s wild beauty, glaciers, and wildlife reminded me of how vast and fragile nature is. It was an adventure that touched my heart.

If you’re ready to experience Alaska’s wonders, email me at [email protected] so I can help plan your luxurious cruise adventure!

Hi, I’m Jane, your personal travel manager with an expertise on Tahitian cruises (among others! 😉) and here are my top tips and must-do things when visiting Tahiti 🏝️

Indulge in Tahitian poisson cru: This dish of raw fish marinated in lime juice and coconut milk is a must-try. It’s fresh, zesty, and quintessentially Tahitian. Like a poke bowl with a fresh Tahitian twist!

Travel in the shoulder seasons: Visit in April, May, or October for ideal weather and fewer crowds. The dry season offers sunny days, while avoiding peak tourist times ensures a more relaxed atmosphere.

Explore Local Markets: Papeete Market is perfect for handcrafted pareos, black pearls, and fragrant monoi oil. It's a great way to support local artisans and find unique souvenirs.

Visit a motu: Take a boat trip to a motu—small island. Relax on pristine beaches, snorkel, and enjoy a traditional Polynesian picnic under palm trees.

Swim with sharks and rays: A thrilling yet safe activity! Join a guided excursion in Bora Bora or Moorea to interact with blacktip reef sharks and friendly rays. I can help you plan on when to best go to enjoy this activity and everything else on your Tahiti holiday.

Catch a Traditional Polynesian Dance Show: Experience Tahiti's culture through vibrant dances, drumming, and storytelling. Many resorts offer these captivating performances, and I can get you booked at the best rates.

Go Hiking in Fautaua Valley: Discover lush rainforest trails leading to stunning waterfalls.

Savour Tahitian Vanilla: Sample this world-famous ingredient in desserts, cocktails, or even savoury dishes. Don’t forget to bring some home as a fragrant reminder of your trip!

If you’d love to experience that luxurious Tahiti holiday… think overwater bungalows and pre-booked motu (small island) and lagoon excursions on glass-bottom boats, **email me at **[email protected] for personalised travel tips and to start planning your dream trip!

My husband and I recently visited Tahbilk, Victoria’s oldest family-owned winery (5 generations!) where we tried the Very Rare Muscat and Tawny Port, which would have to be the best we’ve ever had! I couldn’t resist sneaking a taste of the Cane Cut Marsanne too, and it definitely didn’t disappoint.

The cellar door is still the original one from its founding year in 1860 and it’s like stepping back in time for us when we went inside. This charming winery is also home to Victoria’s oldest Shiraz and Marsanne.

We also dined at the restaurant where the menu is especially crafted to match with the wines. If you want to learn more about this windery or are interested in booking an event, let me know. You can reach me at [email protected] so we can discuss it in more detail. Cheers! 🥂
