The Dalrymple Stadium is part of the Dalrymple (HM Clarke) Saleyards and Equestrian Centre, better known as the Dalrymple Saleyards.

As one of the busiest livestock facilities in North Queensland, the Dalrymple Saleyards processes over 200,000 head of cattle annually through weekly auction sales, stud sales, and live exports. It also hosts equestrian events such as the Nutrien Northern Performance Sale, Gold City Campdraft, Charters Towers Rodeo, Horse of the North, and the Northern Beef Producers Expo.

Mondays Memory Lane...

🕯️ Candles were an underground mining essential, in the early days. 🕯️

⚒️Each underground miner was given enough candles to last their shift, offering just enough light to navigate the underground. Historical records have stated that each miner started their shift after being issued with three candles.

💡 Over time, these candles gave way to oil lamps and carbide lamps, and eventually to modern torches. Each innovation brought safer and more effective lighting, leading us to the sophisticated systems we use today.

It's incredible to think how our early miners managed to find the amount of gold they did by candlelight! 🤩

⛺ As the weather cools down, it's the perfect time to gather around a campfire! The Charters Towers region has countless scenic spots ideal for camping, offering endless opportunities to enjoy a campfire under the stars.🔥

What's your favourite campfire food? Sausages, stew, baked potatoes, toasted marshmallows? For us, it’s hard to pass on a fresh, hot damper cooked over the coals. 🍞 Below is our damper for you to try:

𝐈𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬:
1 cup self-raising flour (extra for board & camp oven)
1/2 tsp salt
25g butter, chilled and cubed (extra for camp oven)
3/4 cup milk

𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬:
𝟏 Ensure you have plenty of hot coals ready.
𝟐 Grease & flour your camp oven.
𝟑 Mix the flour with the salt in a large bowl. Add the butter and rub it into the flour with your fingertips until it resembles fine crumbs.
𝟒 Stir in the milk with a round blade knife (butter knife) to make a soft, but not sticky dough.
𝟓 Turn out onto a lightly floured work surface and shape into a soft, smooth ball.
𝟔 Set the ball of dough into the prepared camp oven. Cut a cross in the dough and brush lightly with milk.
𝟕 Place your camp oven over hot coals & sprinkle hot coals over the camp oven lid.
𝟖 Bake until golden. (You can smell the delicious aroma in the breeze when its ready)
𝟗 Serve warm or at room temperature with a good stew or syrup.

🛡️ Honouring Local Legends - Allan Oshyer (1939-2002)

🏋️‍♂️Allan was not only a remarkable weightlifter but also a proud son of Charters Towers. He proudly represented Australia at the Rome Olympics in 1960 and later showcased his talent at games in Indonesia. His journey of excellence continued at the Perth Commonwealth Games in 1962, bringing home a silver medal. 🥈 And the National Sports Union of Australia awarded him the prestigious title “Master of Sport.”

In recognition of Allan’s incredible achievements, the Charters Towers Community named a park in his honour. 🌳 Allan Oshyer Park, located on Millchester Road beside the Charters Towers Railway Station, is a beautiful testament to his contribution to sport and a nod to our rich rail history, complete with a Railway Carriage display. 🚂
It's a wonderful way to remember a local hero who lifted the spirits and pride of our community.
