Earlier this year, our expert Botanical Guide, Julie Prent, led our group on the Renaissance Gardens of Italy by Canal Boat tour. Hear from Julie below:

"If you love history, culture, garden design, and cruising, this journey is for you. Arriving at our hotel by fast water taxi, and overlooking the Grand Canal, was such a memorable way to start the journey. We had fabulous and enthusiastic local guides and crew, and the gardens we visited showcased the 'rural idyll and villa life' of influential families and clergy. Padua Botanical Garden and Giardino di Villa Gamberaia in Florence were two standouts for me. The birth of botanical science and the exotic, fascinating history and location of the Gamberaia will stay with me."

"Gardens by the Bay is a stunning oasis that combines futuristic design with lush displays of greenery and vivid flora. On tour we visit the climate-controlled Flower Dome and the Cloud Forest, which showcase a diverse array of plants, creative wooden sculptures and a breathtaking waterfall. Another highlight of the tour for me was the food experiences, including high tea at Raffles, forging friendships with the ‘Aunties’ over some homemade snacks straight from their community garden and sampling a local delicacy ‘chilli crab’ at a farewell banquet."

Ninfa, a living masterpiece, weaves history and horticulture. Once a ruined medieval village, it's now a floral tapestry.

The Caetani family's vision transformed this desolate landscape into a botanical haven. Climbing roses, festooning the walls, are one of Ninfa's crowning glories. They adorn every surface possible and range from rare to common, creating the romantic image of the garden. There is a lavender walk with 2.5 kilometers of hedge edging the paths. A harmonious blend of nature and time, Ninfa is an unforgettable journey through Italy's past.

"Join me on Botanica’s cruise of Japan, during which we will glimpse some of horticulture’s most beautiful scenes. In Japan, the cherry blossom is the harbinger of spring. Whether in the quiet fishing village of Uwajima; on the island of Miyajima; or within the country’s revered Kenroku-en and Koraku-en gardens, it’s heartwarming to see people soaking up the sight of cherry trees in full bloom" – Simon Rickard, Botanical Guide.

Sarah, our Senior Product Development Executive, recently travelled on the newly released Eastern & Oriental Express and returned enthralled with the breathtaking scenery she witnessed.

"I recently travelled across Malaysia aboard the Eastern & Oriental Express. Boarding the train was like stepping back in time; its carriages elegant, charming and luxurious. Away from the train, we travelled through Taman Negara National Park in a open-air vehicle, while the canopy treetop walk was a real highlight. In 2025, we combine this rail journey with all the highlights of Singapore, known as a 'City Within a Garden."

"Highgrove is a natural habitat of wildflower meadows, walled kitchen gardens... I could see that it was the result of a thoughtful environmentalist who enjoyed plants and understood the benefits that their diversity offers to the surrounding habitat." - Botanica Founder, Judy Vanrenen OAM
