Meet our Irrigation Manager, and loveable larrikin, Christian H**e.

Our resident funny man, Christian, has been part of the AC Foods family for the past two years.

Coming from a background in growing olives, working in citrus has been an entirely new way of farming to him.

“Citrus was totally foreign to me. No two-days (on the farms) are the same, and there’s always a new challenge to face. However, there’s no better feeling than watching all the fruit heading to the packing shed after all the effort growing it,” Christian said.

A self-confessed Collingwood tragic, Christian said when he’s not at work he loves nothing more than water skiing, footy, fishing, and watching the mighty magpies.
One of Christian’s hidden talents is his ability to make people laugh.

“I have a random party trick where I can make my face go purple!” he said.

In all seriousness, Christian said from the moment he stepped foot on an AC Foods farm there was no turning back.

“Even from the first interview, the staff were friendly and welcoming. I’d had other job offers, but there was something so inviting about joining the AC Foods team.

“During my time here, I would have to say I’m the proudest about the culture we have built as a team – it’s second to none,” said Christian.

National Ag Day

SUMMER SCHOOL HOLIDAY WORK! 🍊

Legacy Packing is looking for friendly and enthusiastic schoolies or school leavers to sort, pack and stack fresh fruit at the production facility, located on Campbell Road, Cobram.

Award rates plus penalties apply in accordance with the Horticulture Award. You must be at least 17 years of age, have a TFN (Tax File Number) and a Super Fund.

Work is available from late November through until March, start and end dates are flexible. Monday to Friday shifts available from 6:30am, some weekends work available (if required)

These positions involve packing, grading and stacking citrus and stone fruit for domestic and export customers. Previous experience is not essential. If you have the right attitude, we will train you!

Work involves extended periods of standing, walking, bending and lifting. You must be physically fit and capable of standing and moving for the whole shift.

Legacy Packing is located on the edge of town, with walking paths available from the main street right to the facility.

Fresh Fruit Friday 🍊

Thank you to all the schools who participated in this year's Fresh Fruit Friday initiative.

We hope we were able to deliver some delicious local fruit, as well as smiles on students' faces.

Thank you for promoting healthy eating in your schools. We look forward to once again delivering this initiative next citrus season.

Welcome Margaret!

We were delighted to have our first Work Experience student in the packing shed recently.

Year 10 student Margaret Mendoza from Cobram Secondary College was a valuable inclusion to the team during her placement five-week placement.

Margaret came to work every Wednesday to further explore her interests in our local packing facility.

“I was interested in what happens in the shed and the processes that take place when packing fruits.

“I was quite unaware of what really happens in this industry and surprised by the roles of quality control, domestic and international dispatch play,” Margaret said.

Margaret gained an insight into the whole production process from start to finish which included site safety, sorting table, online modules, grader tower, packing, quality control, labelling, repacking, despatch and export market protocols.

Margaret said the skills and knowledge she gained during her work experience have helped her plan her future.

“In my future career, I plan to do something in the health field. It was interesting to know that chemistry and health aspects play a huge role in packing fruits.

“I enjoyed my work experience at Legacy Packing, and enjoyed learning about everything that happens here,” Margaret said.

Congratulations to Legacy Packing team member Ada for her recent Barooga Football Club awards.

Ada was named Runner up Best and Fairest, and Most Improved player for the 2024 season.

Ada was a standout for the Barooga Hawks in their inaugural season playing in the Northern Country Womens League.

Sumo Citrus® Donation 🍊

AC Foods/ Legacy Packing is incredibly proud to be able to help those in need by regularly donating fresh local citrus fruit to Foodbank Victoria.

Over the past year, AC Foods has donated over 8,380kgs of citrus fruit to Foodbank Victoria.

Food Sourcing Coordinator Morgan Deans said demand for food relief has skyrocketed.

“Due to the cost-of-living crisis, Foodbank Victoria have seen a dramatic increase in individuals seeking support and are currently feeding over 65,000 individuals every day.

“Thank you so much Legacy Packing for the donation of mandarins.

“We appreciate your support in ensuring that all Victorians doing it tough have access to fresh fruit,” Morgan said.

Foodbank Victoria is an organisation that aims to close the gap on food waste, preventing edible food from ending up in landfill and reducing the environmental footprint associated with food production and disposal.

At AC Foods Australia, we love school groups! 🍊

We recently had students from Sacred Heart Yarrawonga VCAL and Melbourne University tour the Legacy Packing shed and Mowbray Farm.

Students were shown through our facility and shown the whole process - from receival to despatch!

Students were also given the opportunity to ask questions along the way.

Melbourne University students were particularly interested in sustainable packaging and automated processes.

The students from Sacred Heart were lucky enough to visit one of our supply farms, Mowbray Farm, with General Manager - Farms, Drew O’Bree as their tour guide.

The students also had an opportunity to walk amongst the rows, feel the trees, and taste some of our delicious fruit! 🍊

Meet the Team 🍊

Meet our Orchard Operations Supervisor, Dilpreet Singh, or ‘Dil’ as he is affectionately known.

He is responsible for the orchard farm operations at Mowbray Farm which grows predominately SumoCitrus® fruit.

Dil has been working at Mowbray Farm for over four years and says that he is inspired to come to work each day.

“The best part of my role is that I get to work with people from diverse backgrounds from across the world and learn new things on a daily basis.

“I get to witness firsthand the amazing results of the efforts our team’s put in each day. It is always fulfilling to see the end results, that are produced as a team effort,” Dil said.

Originally from India, Dil migrated to Australia nine years ago, to study Agriculture.

“Agriculture is something that I was attracted to from the very beginning as it keeps me connected to my roots.

“Mowbray Farm is like a second home to me, and I feel extremely lucky to be working under such great leadership,” Dil said.

When he’s not working on the farm, Dil enjoys gardening, reading and cooking. He says he has one piece of advice he lives by:

“Always be open to new challenges, as it keeps you motivated to adapt to changes and learn new skills,” Dil said.

Local business partner, Kearney Logistics, was back in the packing shed this week, trucking fruit bins to South Australia, Mildura and Leeton/Griffith, ahead of the 2024 SumoCitrus harvest.
