What fantastic news! ❤️

🐧 One-night last week, a record 5,219 little penguins swum into shore at the Phillip Island Nature Parks Penguin Parade and waddled up the beach to their burrows – the highest number recorded since 1968!

“Before this, the record was 4,435, which was set last year, with the average number of penguins coming home each night in 2021 ranging from around 700 in July to 2,300 in November.

Scientists believe an abundance of food close to shore and the population’s preparation for an Autumn breeding attempt may be behind the soaring penguin numbers.” Phillip Island Nature Parks

GREAT NEWS FOR BOATIES with plans announced today with plans drawn up to improve boating facilities at Cowes’ Anderson Road boat ramp.
Plans recommend increasing the ramp’s height to minimise sand build-up on the ramp surface and installing timber groynes on either side of the facility, helping manage sand movement and accumulation directly in front of the ramp.
An extension will also be made to the existing jetty alongside the boat ramp, allowing more boats to be berthed and increasing the facility’s capacity.
In addition, the turning circle at the top of the ramp is to be realigned, making manoeuvring cars and trailers easier and safer.
The concept designs are being released at a drop-in session at Cowes on Wednesday, July 14. Plans can also be viewed and feedback provided at www.betterboating.vic.gov.au/ramp-upgrades/cowes-boat-ramp.

Another upgraded boat ramp is on the way for Phillip Island with design and planning commissioned to improve boating facilities at the Cowes boat ramp.

2020 AUSTRALIAN MOTORCYCLE GRAND PRIX CANCELLED

The Australian Grand Prix Corporation (AGPC) in conjunction with Dorna Sports today announced the 2020 Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix is cancelled due to restrictions relating to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The 2020 Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix was due to be held at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit from 23-25 October.

Full refunds will be provided to all ticket holders and information will be provided on www.motogp.com.au.

The Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix has been an annual fixture since 1989 and has raced continuously at Phillip Island from 1997 to present day.

Phillip Island also hosted the first two Australian Motorcycle Grands Prix in 1989 and 1990.

“We’re very disappointed that MotoGP fans throughout Victoria, Australia and internationally won’t get the chance to make the pilgrimage to see the world’s best riders compete on one of the best circuits anywhere in the world, but the right decision has been made” said Australian Grand Prix Corporation Chairman, Paul Little AO.

“The Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix puts Phillip Island on the global stage and it’ll be back better than ever in 2021.”
