Whale season is upon us here is Phillip Island.
May to September sees us all watching out for sightings and getting ready for the Whale Festival at the start of July.
You can see Humpback Whales, Southern Right Whales, and occasionally Orcas, as they migrate through the waters around Phillip Island. This variety provides a unique opportunity to observe different behaviours and characteristics of each species.
Several vantage points to keep in mind where you might see the whales as they come close to the shoreline, are the Nobbies, Cape Woolamai, & Pyramid Rock. No boat required!
Phillip Island is situated along the migration path of these whales as they travel from the cold Antarctic waters to the warmer waters of Queensland to breed and give birth.

Do you love Go Karting?
We love it.
Every time we go, I get ready to beat the husband and the kids. And every time, they beat me.
Bugger.
I think I’ll win next time.

You’ll find these gorgeous creatures on Churchill Island, only a few minutes detour off the main road, it’s a must to stop in when you visit Phillip Island!
Highland cows are easily recognizable by their rugged coats (it can get a bit chilly here 🥶 ) and those long curved horns.
Their gentle & docile nature makes them easier to handle compared to some other breeds.
They live for around 15-20 years.
🥰 they really are just the cutest things ever!
Life is short.
Check your calendar.
Book your holiday.
See, that was easy wasn’t it!
Whenever we go to the island, we look forward to it so very much.
Over the years we have been for the motor sport, to visit family and also just to swim in the sea.
We always feel like we’ve arrived when we see the bridge! And then always wonder why we’re not there yet and it takes us another 20 mins to get to Cowes 😊
Over the years we’ve created such beautiful memories with the people we love, and in a place we love.
Love this place!

Who knew?
That winter holidays are as fabulous as summer ones?
Spending the winter months in Phillip Island is an experience to remember.
The cooler temperatures can make it more comfortable to hike and ride your bike.
It’s the breeding season for some of our local wildlife.
Whale watching season is June to September and seeing one is something you will never forget.

Island Time
It really is a thing.
Referring to the relaxed, leisurely pace of life associated with being on an island.
A concept that suggests time moves differently in such settings, with less emphasis on strict schedules and more focus on enjoying the moment, taking things slowly, and embracing a laid-back attitude.
Switching Island Time ON lets you disconnect from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and immerse yourself fully in the natural beauty and tranquility of our beautiful island environment.
We’ve signed up to it, you should too.

DARK SKY SO SHEARWATERS FLY
The Short-tailed Shearwater birds undertake an incredible migration journey each year.
Australia – Japan – Siberia – Alaska – Australia
September sees the return migration. The shearwaters begin their journey to Phillip Island for the next breeding season. It’s one of the longest migrations undertaken by any bird species. They fly a 16,000km round trip and return to en masse, arriving at nightfall after their long journey across the ocean. It really is a breathtaking sight and a significant event for both locals and visitors.
There is a community effort on Phillip Island to protect their habitat, minimise disturbances to breeding colonies, control introduced predators, and raise awareness about the importance of preserving the island's natural environment.
In April and May we see The Great Migration again, leaving their young chicks behind. Often during their training period the chicks will land on the roads around the island, being drawn to manmade light and flat road surfaces.
During these times you might notice the lights on the bridge are turned off. This is to prevent the birds from being attracted to them. The speed limit might also change, so keep an eye out for that too.
Phillip Island Nature Parks has changed their lighting in the Penguin Parade Visitor Centre carpark, which has resulted in fewer shearwaters landing around the carpark.
It’s always handy to have these numbers in your phone just in case you see sick or injured wildlife;
