As the sun begins to set on another season, we would like to say a big "THANKYOU" to everyone that we had the pleasure of taking out cruising on the wetlands with us this year. If you haven`t managed to visit us yet, its still not too late, last cruises for the year depart this Thursday the 24th October.... don`t miss out.

It has been a fantastic year for wildlife and hopefully after another good wet season flooding, Corroboree Billabong will provide some amazing wildlife encounters and photo opportunities for our future guests.

Did you know that Jacana males look after the nest and the young by themselves, after the female lays the eggs and leaves town? They are pretty dodgy builders, as you can see by the nest (which looks a couple of eggs short), but they are excellent fathers. Shading the eggs with their bodies to stop overheating during the heat of the day, hiding babies from danger in the water near the nest, carrying babies and juveniles under their wings for protection from birds of prey. A lot of work goes into bringing up the kids and getting them off your hands, unfortunately, not even time for Man Flu in this household 😉. Shouldn`t be long before we have a baby to look at folks.

Australia`s only Stork, the "Black-necked Stork" or more commonly known locally as the "Jabiru". Such a magnificent bird and unfortunately labelled with 2 incorrect names.

The real "Jabiru" is a stork that is found in south America and the real "Black-necked Stork" is obviously not this bird!!! Just a glance lets you see that this bird would surely have to be named the "Shiny Green Iridescent-necked Stalk" unless your colour blind, in which case an exception could be made.

Luckily, not matter what they call it, this bird is a pleasure to watch during our cruises.

Corroboree Billabong has just been amazing this year. The birdlife has flourished and continues to provide wonderful photo opportunities for the passengers on our wetland cruises. Crocs are also still plentiful and willing to just laze on the banks for a memorable picture, totally undisturbed by our presence. Our nature based cruises don`t interfere with the wildlife and leave the animals undisturbed, it`s a beautiful way to watch nature in it`s natural environment. If you haven`t visited us in a while, maybe its time for come out for another look around.

It`s been a great couple of weeks on Corroboree Billabong with a few new birds in the area plus our regulars. Getting more regular sightings of Kingfishers plus we`ve had Dotterels and Buff banded rails getting about. Water levels on the floodplains have been steadily dropping though and they are now starting to dry up, so things are changing. Plenty of crocs still around on the banks to look at also which is awesome. Happy long weekend to those Darwinians out there.

Congratulations to our guide Evan on winning the "Territory Champion" award. The award recognises outstanding guides who have gone "above and beyond" the expected level of service to provide passengers with an amazing Territory experience. Evan was nominated for the award by many passengers who raved about their 1 day tour with him and how much effort he made to make their day unforgettable. After 8 years working for us here at Wetland Cruises, we are very proud to see Evan get an award which is so truly deserved.

Wow, wow, wow...... another great week on Corroboree Billabong. Our cruises are seeing plenty of birds and the crocs have been everywhere with the cold overnight temperatures we have been getting. If your planning on joining a sunrise cruise at the moment, make sure you bring a jacket as it was only 6 degrees out there a few days ago....Brrrrrr.
