Epic surf at Ocean Beach today 🌊

The highly popular and stunningly beautiful Bald Head Walk Trail near Albany is now re-opened after extensive upgrades.

DBCA staff and contractors have spent months upgrading the track to install new boardwalks and steps to guide hikers along the challenging 12.5km, six-hour walk in Albany's Torndirrup National Park.

The work stabilised washed-out dunes and will help prevent future erosion.

While the track has been upgraded, the scenery remains the same - a jaw-droppingly beautiful mix of wild Southern Ocean coastline, towering granite rocks, white beaches and turquoise seas.

But it remains a long and challenging Class 4 bushwalk that requires a high level of fitness, experience and preparation. The track is long, and parts are rough, and the terrain is steep and difficult in sections. Do not attempt to return via the beaches due to unseen hazards.

Make sure you bring sufficient water and food and come prepared for changing weather conditions - this is Albany after all!

Also, make sure you leave sufficient time to complete the walk in daylight - this is no place to be walking in the dark.

How good does this look? I must confess it was as delicious as it looks! The very talented women whipped together this deliciousness from locally sourced goodies 😋 and their amazing kitchen. Perfect for arvo nibbles at your cottage by the fire with a bottle of your favourite local wine, or take with you on a picnic. Too many ways to enjoy.

The Harewood Forest 🌳 Trail snakes it’s way up the hill providing the perfect vantage of the tops of the trees in the valley below. Listen to the birds chirping and the wind rustling the leaves above. This newly completed 2.8km looped trail is perfect for an afternoon with the kids. Not far from .farmhousecheese or so why not break up the and stretch your legs.

We have recently upgraded the queen mattresses in some of our cottages to and the feedback we have had in such a short period of time has been amazing. Several guests commenting that they will order one as soon as they get home. Why not book a stay and try it for yourself?

The weather might not have been perfect 🌧 but that’s no reason not to explore. is spectacular with fantastic infrastructure and the wilderness lookout is highly accessible. For those keen to get right to the top there is a sealed path the whole way, well at least to the 302 steps that takes you to the summit.

Lights Beach reopened last Monday after having a bit of a makeover. Every time we visit this beach it’s always different and why we love coming back time and time again. The conditions were a bit rough to enjoy champagne 🍾 pool yesterday but hopefully one day soon it’ll stop raining and the sun will come out again ☀️

Denmark Forest Retreat, formerly “Caddyvale Cottages” began in December 1993, built and operated by the Gibbs. After 25 years, in December 2018 we, Jason and Melissa Edmunds, became the new owners. The name change occurred in August 2019 to better reflect what this stunning property has to offer its guests. Having been high school teachers in Perth but forever lured by the beauty of Denmark and the South Coast we would spend most of our holidays here exploring the natural landscape and taking in the fresh air to relax and unwind from a stressful term. As a family the time seemed right for us to move, this opportunity arose and here we find ourselves “living the dream”.
