"The real fear that I have for dyslexic people is not that they have to struggle with jumbled input or that they can’t spell, but that they will quit on themselves before they get out of school." - Stephen J. Cannell

It's week in the UK – the tests we ask our 10 and 11-year-old children to sit, which test all of our challenges but none of our dyslexic strengths.

When MPs were asked to take the SATs recently:
👉 44% failed maths
👉 50% failed spelling, punctuation & grammar

60% of parents say it harms their children's mental health, just as this heartbreaking letter shows from the wonderful Charlotte 😢

Dear Students,

Exams do not measure your intelligence, your worth or even your learning.
They measure your ability to digest and re-share information (often asked in trick-speak to test the way your brain processes), in tense conditions and under pressure.
We can’t all do that.
Doesn’t mean you didn’t pay attention, study hard or try your best.
And it certainly doesn’t mean you are not amazing, wonderful humans with so much to offer this parched world.
Chances are you would be able to answer correctly on the same subjects in a relaxed environment with straight-shooting questions.
The system is flawed, but that’s okay, you’ll do just fine when you find your thing.
Your time to shine will come.
And oh will you shine.

Dyslexia can affect anyone, even royalty!
Prince Carl Philip, member of the Swedish royal family (and proud dyslexic) recently hosted a World Dyslexia Assembly in Sweden, organised by his Foundation (Prins Carl Philips och Prinsessan Sofias stiftelse) in collaboration with the amazing Kate Griggs and Made By Dyslexia, with dyslexia advocates Sir Richard Branson and Robyn Curnow also part of the Assembly.
Prince Carl Philip wasn’t the only dyslexic royal in attendance, Princess Beatrice was also there to reaffirm her commitment to helping other dyslexics get the support they need to flourish, along with members of the education, business and research sectors, to discuss how to increase awareness and knowledge of dyslexia.

Did you know that the King of Sweden, Carl XVI Gustaf and Crown Princess Victoria (Carl Philips’s father and older sister) also have dyslexia!

It is too often tough and lonely just to hold the expectation that your beloved child will be taught to read in school. A kind word, a thoughtful gesture, mean so much. 💔
