An Eastern Osprey (Pandion cristatus) perches on a yellow shore marker post at Yardie Creek Entrance, Cape Range National Park, tearing into its morning catch. These shore markers, with reflective triangles and aligned yellow posts, indicate sanctuary zone boundaries, seamlessly blending conservation with the wild beauty of Western Australia's coastline.

The Pleistocene desert dunes of the North West Cape in Western Australia are part of an ancient landscape formed during the Pleistocene epoch, which lasted from about 2.6 million to 11,700 years ago. During this period, the climate was much drier, and sea levels were lower due to the glacial periods, leading to the formation of extensive dune systems. 🌏

Almost a year after fire swept through this area, we're seeing an incredible transformation. Despite the harsh conditions, new life emerges amidst the dunes, showing nature's remarkable ability to heal and thrive. 🌿🌞

Meet one of my favourite locals—the Spinifex Pigeon (Geophaps plumifera) here at home amongst the rocks and spinifex of Cape Range. Reminds me of a clockwork toy with its little legs trying to keep up the pace while foraging for spinifex seeds.
