Orcas at Ningaloo Reef 29th April 2024
We were lucky enough to see Orcas this morning before we headed off for our Whale shark swim. How’s that for an intro to a day of marine encounters.

We’ll be back in the water swimming with these gentle giants of the deep as of the 25th March 2024. Avoid the Easter holiday crowds and book your Whale shark tour now.

It can be agonising to watch at times, but it is important where possible to let hatchlings make their own way to the ocean.
The journey from nest to the water helps them imprint the beach where they one day, hopefully, will return to lay their own eggs. As they emerge from their nest and travel towards the water, they orientate themselves and fully exercise their limbs and their lungs. Which is so important if you've been growing underground in close proximity to 100 or so of your brothers and sisters. Basically they are warming up for the big oceanic adventure that awaits them.
This little one definitely isn't a quitter so we're confidently optimistic we may see them again one day, whether snorkeling the reef or perhaps back at the beach where it all began.

NB: there were no predators nearby so the hatchling had time to correct itself. It had flipped for less than one minute before flipping back over to continue the journey. Just like this hatchling, never give up 😉
Turtle hatchling @ Ningaloo Reef
It’s turtle season at Ningaloo Reef, the time of year where hatchlings emerge from darkness and rush toward their ocean home.
Hatchlings have to face predators like seagulls, crabs, lizards etc before they even reach the water. To avoid being another obstacle for this little hatchling to face, please ensure you don’t place yourself between them and the ocean. Even your footprint in the sand becomes a deep hole for them to have to climb out of.
There is a protocol to follow if wanting to encounter turtles. We urge you to visit the local information centres to find out what to and not to do.

The little raise of the head as the turtle touches the ocean 🥲 Heading off on new adventures. Good luck little buddy, hope to see you back on the reef some day.

Nothing like being in the water with a Humpback Whale. For the next few months, if the opportunity arises and its safe to do so we are able to enter the water with Humpback Whales. Bookings for our Whale shark Humpback Whale Eco Tours for August and September are open!

Yesterday we had an encounter with a Mola Mola, otherwise known as a Sunfish. Such a special way for our Skipper to mark his birthday. Check out this video of Mola Mola swallowing jellyfish for lunch.

Love going through the footage captured during our tours. Thought I'd share this one with you. One of those special moments during a snorkel when our photographer turned around to see not one but three dugongs cruising past. We usually only get a quick glimpse at these extremely shy creatures, so to be under water with them really is an encounter to remember.
